Tonight we arrived safely in Memphis! We are excited to see how God will work in this city and in our group this week. Keep us in your prayers as we serve throughout the week.

The Monument church service

by Kelsi Elkins | July 30, 2017 9:49 PM

This morning we worshipped at Monument of Love Baptist Church. It was good getting to see Pastor Joyce again. His energy along with the church members' passion in worship was encouraging.

Church Without Doors

by Kelsi Elkins | July 30, 2017 11:04 PM

In the afternoon, we participated in a homeless church service in a park under some trees in downtown Memphis. After setting up our makeshift benches out of 5 gallon buckets and wood planks, we joined our homeless friends in worship. We had great conversations and meet some cool people.

Rainbow Nursing Home

by Kelsi Elkins | July 31, 2017 10:26 PM

For the first part of today, some of us went to a nursing home to sing and fellowship with some of the residents living in the facility. We sang hymns then walked the halls talking and praying with some of the residents. Over all, we had a good visit with good conversations.

Caritas Village

by Kelsi Elkins | July 31, 2017 10:40 PM

After lunch, we all headed to a local community center referred to as the Caritas Village. Currently this center is in the process of undergoing renovations, so our team was there to help clean out and pack up all things from the building. We finished 2 hours early because of our hard work and determination! Go team! We hope we were a blessing and help to the staff there at Caritas.

Feeding the Hungry

by Kelsi Elkins | August 1, 2017 12:07 PM

Some of us spent our morning at St. Vincent DePaul Food Mission. Our morning consisted of individually packaging cookies and chips, making pb&j and bologna sandwiches, and prepping the plates for the steady line of those coming to receive food. Total, we served a little over 100 people!

Serving Hands

by Kelsi Elkins | August 2, 2017 10:17 PM

The other half of our group helped at St. Vincent DePaul food mission this morning. We all eagerly served soup and sack lunches to the people coming to the mission. Another day, another 120 served. The normal six volunteers really appreciated the extra help our group was able to give. Having all the extra hands helped smooth out the prepping and serving process.

Serving the Local Church

by Kelsi Elkins | August 2, 2017 10:53 PM

Everyday this week, we have sent a group to Monument of Love Baptist Church to help support Pastor Joyce and the local church family. We helped with up keep of the church including repainting and cleaning the inside of the building. To end our time each day at the Monument, we did some outreach in the surrounding community. We were able to talk and pray with many people at red lights and in the neighborhood.

Calvary Testimonies

by Kelsi Elkins | August 2, 2017 11:19 PM

Tonight we served tacos to about 40 homeless men staying at Calvary Rescue Mission. Serving the men was rewarding but worshipping alongside them was even more rewarding. A few of the men's testimonies really encouraged us to lean into God and be grateful for all the blessings He gives us. They gave their testimonies then a few of us gave ours. Overall, tonight was a good night filled with how God is working in our lives.

Bent Tree Backpacks

by Kelsi Elkins | August 3, 2017 10:29 PM

At the Bent Tree Apartments, we helped distribute fully stocked backpacks to all the kids in the surrounding complex to prepare them with supplies for school that will be starting next week. In the meantime while the kids waited, we face painted and made bracelets and just had a fun time!

God of this City

by Kelsi Elkins | August 3, 2017 10:52 PM

To end our week of ministry in Memphis, we prayer walked down Beale Street, Memphis' most famous and busiest street. We prayed over the tourists and locals and the city and that God's peace would ultimately reign.

At the right place at the right time

by Kelsi Elkins | August 3, 2017 11:00 PM

At the end of the prayer walk, a couple from Oregon saw us which sparked a conversation about Christianity. The man encouraged us with his testimony of how he came to know Christ. We ended our brief time together with prayer.
