The Team is Here!

by Amanda Mataczynski | June 30, 2014 5:15 PM

The team arrived Saturday evening with bright and cheery faces! After everyone settled into their sleeping spaces, we held a quick meeting to talk a little about our week and what we will be doing, then we gathered for games. The kids loved playing card games! (I think they would have played them all night had we of let them.) :P

Community Hang Out

by Amanda Mataczynski | June 30, 2014 7:13 PM

Sunday, we experienced an awesome worship session and message at New Community Church. We learned about the prodigal son, and how God always comes running for us when we return back to him - he even clothes us in the robes of royalty! After church we went to the Blackstone Park to have a BBQ and hear spoken word. Those that shared did a great job! We also played football with people in the community and learned a few gymnastic moves from Gracie. After the park we have long-awaited showers, and had our first nightly meeting where we prayed and worshipped God.

Our first service day!

by Amanda Mataczynski | June 30, 2014 7:20 PM

Today has been a packed day! To start off the morning, we were visited and lead by Pastor Ed in prayer walking. He spoke about how the New Community Church has been saturating their community in prayer for many years, and how because of it the community has improved greatly! We went to Blackstone park and prayed over the whole thing! We asked for angels to come guard each corner of the park, that it would become a place of freedom and joy. After our prayer walk, we loaded up the vans and headed to two abandoned houses. We began cleaning up the garbage, pulling weeds, mowing the grass, and trimming branches and bushes that lined the house. We're thankful that we get to go back to the same locations tomorrow because there is still tons to do! For our sports camp in the evening we broke up into two groups where we played games at the church and in Blackstone Park. We had obstacle courses, basketball, frisbee, and all sorts of other sports. The kids were aged anywhere from elementary to high school, and all of them had a blast! Dinner was delicious! We had fried chicken potato wedges, macaroni salad, and a fresh spinach and romain salad! And after a long day in the sun running around and playing sports, we ate a lot!
