Serving In Ghana

We Have Arrived

by Vickie Fivecoat | July 14, 2014 5:45 AM

We arrived safe and sound to a warm Ghana day! PPM staffers and several Liberty Baptist Church members greeted us at the airport. We got ourselves situated (somewhat!) into Golden Rock Guesthouse, our "home away from home" for the week. With great anticipation of the days ahead, we were treated to a jubilant welcoming service by the church. This is the first work team Liberty has hosted and they are excited! The service ended with some holy dancing and shaking hands with and being embraced by each and every church member. If that doesn't inspire you, nothing will! Get ready, Ofankor, the trailblazers have arrived! Pictured ~ The group being greeted by Pastor Nathan

Off and Running!

by Vickie | July 15, 2014 8:51 AM

We woke up bright and early (some of us earlier than others!) and began work on pouring the floor for the church addition. It progressed without a hitch for which we are thankful. We will work all day doing cement work, visit a local school and will close out the day with a church service where we will be in charge of the Bible Studies. Men will meet with men, women with women and the youth will be with the children. Please pray for us as we make our adjustments and enter into life in Ghana!

Water Detail

All the water for the concrete mix must be carried by hand. Jessica has found an "easy" way to accomplish this task.

In the Word

by Vickie | July 15, 2014 4:50 PM

On our third night with Liberty Baptist Church, we enjoyed another rousing time of worship! Over 60 children came out to spend time with the youth of the Watts Chapel team. Meeting in a room which resembled a long hallway didn't stop them! Deacon Charles had some inspired words for the men, and Brenda shared thoughts from God's word on praise and thankfulness. Church members listened intently and soaked in every word! Praise God, He is at work and speaking to His people!

God Sends the Rain

by Vickie | July 16, 2014 3:39 PM

The team woke this morning to a tropical downpour! The rain put a bit of a crimp in the construction work but didn't stop us from our trek to two different schools to share Jesus with the children. Here we are slogging through the mud to get to our first school.

School Number One

by Vickie | July 16, 2014 3:51 PM

Municipal Assembly One School welcomed us with open arms and out of bounds enthusiasm.

School Number Two

by Vickie | July 16, 2014 4:04 PM

Our second stop of the day was King of Glory School where we met with younger children. Adorable!!!

Local Cuisine

by Vickie | July 19, 2014 10:51 AM

Part of the fun of international travel is enjoying the foods that the local people eat. Pictured here are the youth trying out some roasted corn.

On the Right Track

by Vickie | July 19, 2014 11:02 AM

Walking through the community yesterday before attending the outdoor Christian movie hosted by the Ghana Baptist Convention gave some of the group a chance to see how some of the Ghanaian people travel, by train.

After...

by Vickie | July 19, 2014 11:08 AM

After several days of construction, the floor has been poured, the walls are up and the columns are being poured. Liberty Baptist Church members and Watts Chapel members alike are very pleased with the progress!

Rematch!

by Vickie | July 19, 2014 11:13 AM

Liberty Church members felt that since Ghana lost to the USA in the World Cup, we needed a rematch! Ghanaians redeemed themselves with a victory of 2-1!!! Shown here ~ Team USA

And the Work Goes On

by Vickie | July 19, 2014 11:27 AM

Tonight the team will join Liberty Baptist Church for a going away service. It will be a bittersweet time of sharing events of the past week as well as looking to the future for what God has in store for the people in this place and how he will use all that has transpired during our short time here. Tomorrow morning we will worship at Calvary Baptist Church, celebrating the Ghana Baptist Church Convention's 50th anniversary. We will then head for Cape Coast where we will visit Cape Castle and enjoy a little downtime. Tuesday we will travel to Lake Volta to the northeast of Accra and spend time at a school which the Baptist Church founded to help girls in need. In some ways, this trip has seemed like a whirlwind. In other ways, it seems we have been here forever. The friendships we have formed will last for eternity! God be praised! Pictured ~ More bricks drying for another phase of building
