We’ve Arrived!

by Johanna Broten | December 15, 2022 9:48 PM

After a long travel day (and some crazy weather!) we made it safely to Florida. We are excited for our first day of ministry tomorrow!

Debris Cleanup

by Johanna Broten | December 16, 2022 8:33 PM

This morning we helped a homeowner clear out debris that was swept into the mangroves around her home during Hurricane Ian. Our eyes were opened as she shared with us that their neighborhood just received power this week after losing it back in September. It was a blessing to see how touched she was by our team showing up to serve.

Power in Prayer

by Johanna Broten | December 16, 2022 8:43 PM

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

It is a special moment when we get to pray with the people we are serving alongside. What a gift to serve a God who always hears our prayers!

Continuing Clean Up

by Johanna Broten | December 16, 2022 8:48 PM

In the afternoon we continued cleaning up debris for a few different homeowners. We rallied together as a team to get the job done and were blessed with some really sweet relational moments in the neighborhood as we served.

Kayaks and Canals

by Johanna Broten | December 16, 2022 9:05 PM

Several of us went out in small boats and kayaks to pull debris out of the canals behind these homes.

At one home we helped rebuild a dock to be able to safely get a boat into the water for retrieving debris. The homeowners showed us the level where water rose during the hurricane and told us some of their story of hope in the midst of loss. We are learning to pause and think about why we are here to serve and to hear the needs of the community before bringing our agenda.

We are grateful for stories of hope in the midst of destruction and continuing to pray for this community as they rebuild.

Demo Day!

by Johanna Broten | December 17, 2022 9:28 PM

In the hurricane, the lower levels of many homes were completely flooded out. Today we did some demo work on a home removing nails and walls that remained to prepare for the rebuilding process.

More Debris

Even 3 months after the hurricane, there is still so much debris to be cleaned up. Every little bit helps and many hands definitely lighten the load!

Standing Strong

by Johanna Broten | December 17, 2022 9:42 PM

In all that was lost in the disaster, this mirror remained hanging on the wall without a crack. We helped the homeowner take it down and move it inside. What a beautiful reminder of what this community has endured and how strong they are standing through it!

Joyful Noise

by Johanna Broten | December 19, 2022 1:50 PM

Yesterday morning we worshipped at Cape Coral First United Methodist Church. The choir performed a Christmas musical and we stayed after to join the congregation for a luncheon and time of fellowship. What a special time to remember the birth of Jesus as we prepare for Christmas!

Teams that Play Together Stay Together!

by Johanna Broten | December 19, 2022 1:55 PM

After church we helped a nearby homeowner put up soffits for his roof. Just a few hands were needed for this job so of course we played a few rounds of ninja as a team!

One Name

by Johanna Broten | December 19, 2022 2:07 PM

In the afternoon we met another homeowner and cleared her yard of debris. We then took a moment to pray over her and the surrounding community. This is what it’s all about, gathering together to serve in one name, the name of Jesus!

Goodbye Florida

by Johanna Broten | December 19, 2022 2:13 PM

Our plans shifted many times on this trip, but God truly worked it all together for good. We are leaving Florida with strengthened friendships, widened perspectives, and full hearts!

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Goodbye Florida
