Welcome to D.C.

by Mia Wichmann | June 18, 2022 9:25 PM

We made it to D.C. this evening. After a long day of travel, we got settled into our lodging at First Baptist Church of Waldorf and cannot wait to serve this week!!

We are excited to see the way God moves and works through each of us.

Heading to the monuments!

by Mia Wichmann | June 19, 2022 9:11 PM

After struggling to find a parking space and almost giving up, God gave us a space right by the Capitol.

We had gorgeous weather to enjoy the National Mall and visit the monuments and memorials!

Washington Monument!

by Mia Wichmann | June 19, 2022 9:15 PM

We had to visit the iconic center of the National Mall, the Washington Monument!

The monument can be seen from many places around the city and from it you can see the White House, the Capitol, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial. We had to see it up close.

Worship 24/7 at David’s Tent

by Mia Wichmann | June 19, 2022 9:17 PM

A must see spot on trips in David’s Tent.

David’s tent is a 24/7 worship tent on the National Mall that has been worshipping nonstop for 6 years. There is always someone leading worship as well as a few staff there to pray with if you want. This tent is open for people to come and go as they please.

Food trucks!

by Mia Wichmann | June 19, 2022 9:22 PM

We had dinner at food trucks tonight. Food trucks line the streets of DC and have anything from hot dogs to philly cheesesteaks, from burrito bowls to tacos.

Basketball

by Mia Wichmann | June 20, 2022 10:35 AM

In our free time, the boys have enjoyed playing basketball with the other boys from Jamestown Presbyterian who are lodging with us this week.

We love these connections made between churches. They are family, fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.

Paint prep

by Mia Wichmann | June 20, 2022 10:40 AM

We did some tedious work this morning. This morning we embarked on a joint project with Jamestown Presbyterian. Our team prepped the lobby for painting this week. That meant tape, tape, and more tape.

Projects around the church

by Mia Wichmann | June 20, 2022 10:42 AM

A small group helped clean up the courtyard playground. We pulled up weeds around the perimeter.

Picnic Lunch

by Mia Wichmann | June 20, 2022 1:59 PM

We took our lunch into DC this afternoon. Due to the road closures from the music festival this past weekend, we ended up not parking in our “usual” spot. That meant we got to find these nice tables and swings to have lunch at instead!!

Exploring Natural History Musuem

by Mia Wichmann | June 20, 2022 5:33 PM

This afternoon, we took our recreation day to downtown DC. We explored the Natural History Museum. We loved seeing the geology, ocean, and dinosaur exhibits, but the mummies were our favorite.

While leaving for the day, we met a man named Dean and had an amazing conversation loving on him and being encouraged and blessed by him.

Clothes, clothes & more clothes

by Mia Wichmann | June 21, 2022 5:45 PM

This morning at Lifestyles the boys powered through a mountain of clothing. In the beginning we could barely get into the room but by the end we could see through to the other side. It may have been tedious, but we are excited to see all the clothes we sorted through out at the distribution event.

The girls this morning made about 200 bags of toiletries to give out at their monthly distribution event.

In the afternoon we had a chance to pray with the director.

Afternoon Chips

by Mia Wichmann | June 21, 2022 5:54 PM

The boys and girls took turns packing up chips into grocery bags to be handed out tomorrow at their event.

There were piles and piles of chips stacked up so very carefully.

Distribution day!!

by Mia Wichmann | June 22, 2022 6:57 PM

Seeing the people excitedly select clothes and toiletries that we packaged yesterday brought great joy to our eyes. So grateful for the conversations we had, even if there was a language barrier in some cases.

Pizzzzzzza

by Mia Wichmann | June 22, 2022 7:01 PM

After all their hard work they were treated to some pizza from Lifestyles. It was delicious!

Fellowship

by Mia Wichmann | June 23, 2022 2:15 PM

Last night (Wednesday), we enjoyed a laughter-filled time with the youth First Baptist Church of Waldorf. It was so cool to see the three churches (Jamestown Presbyterian, First Baptist Church and our church) come together and become the Church of Christ. We played intense dodgeball.

One of our favorites… playing mafia and underground church with Jamestown. We are so grateful for the bonds we have created. They are truly family to us, and we can’t play without them.

Martha’s Table!!

by Mia Wichmann | June 23, 2022 2:23 PM

This afternoon we served at Martha’s Table. Martha’s Table serves food to those in need primarily Wards 7 and 8. Ward 8 is a food desert where many don’t have fresh groceries easily accessible.

Today we packaged food bags with pasta, tuna, canned beans, potatoes, onions, oranges and apples.
