We Made It!

by Lindsey Shaffer | June 27, 2021 1:06 AM

We arrived in Alaska last night and made our way to our host church, Mat-Su Evangelical Covenant Church. We spent the day in Wasilla, the community we’ll be serving this week, and hiked around Reflection Lake. We are excited for what God has in store for us this week.

But First, Coffee!

Sunday morning before church we enjoyed some coffee, Alaskan style! Coffee huts are very popular here in Alaska and it was a great start to our day!

Hatcher Pass

by Lindsey Shaffer | June 28, 2021 3:08 AM

Today we got to attend the service of our host church, Mat-Su Evangelical Covenant Church. We really enjoyed the worship set and message from Pastor Rick.

After lunch we made our way to Hatcher Pass. Our first stop was at the Little Susitna River to take some photos and hang out a bit before making our way up the mountain. We drove up to Independence Mine and had the afternoon to explore. God blessed us with such beautiful weather today. We were amazed by His creation and the scenery that surrounded us.

We are excited to start our ministry projects tomorrow and see what else God has in store for us.

Fixing Electric!

by Lily Erwin | June 28, 2021 4:15 PM

Monday morning our team hit the ground running by working on some electrical issues at the church! These guys are working hard to make sure the facility is in great condition for many to be able to hear the Gospel and grow in community together!

If the Shoe Fits

by Lindsey Shaffer | June 29, 2021 12:49 AM

We really enjoyed our first day serving at Thrifter’s Rock-Wasilla. There were different tasks that needed done and we each used our skills to complete and also enjoy them. Some of us sorted and cleaned shoes...and also admired them.

Evening Stroll

by Lindsey Shaffer | June 29, 2021 1:04 AM

After dinner, we decided to go for a walk. We spent that time just enjoying fellowship together. We chatted, picked some wild flowers, spotted some “wildlife,” and made it to a nearby lake. It was such a lovely way to end our first day of ministry and we’re looking forward to what the rest of the week brings.

Thrifter’s Rock

by Lindsey Shaffer | June 30, 2021 1:21 AM

We had an awesome day at Thrifter’s Rock-Wasilla!! The weather was beautiful and we were happy to be working outside to enjoy it. We continued sorting and organizing books and clothing. This afternoon we were able to chat with other workers and volunteers and hear some of their stories and to share ours. We shared quite a few laughs together which made the work we were doing even more fun. And a few of us were lucky enough to find some great books and clothing to purchase! We’re loving the progress we’re making each day on these projects and are excited to continue them tomorrow!

S’mores!

by Lily Erwin | June 30, 2021 11:40 AM

Tuesday night we enjoyed our nightly team meeting by the fire! We roasted marshmallows and enjoyed great fellowship. We reflected on what God is speaking to each of us during our time in Alaska.

Thrifters Rock!

by Lily Erwin | July 1, 2021 1:43 PM

Thrifters Rock here in Wasilla! We had a great day sorting through many donations, including books, clothes, and linens. Even if we don’t always get to see the effect the work of our hands have, we trust and pray that God will use these items to bless many people that are in need. We are so thankful to be a part of what God is doing.

Last Day Best Day!

by Lily Erwin | July 3, 2021 3:04 AM

Friday was our last day in Alaska. We hiked to Bryan Glacier, saw a lot of wildlife at the Alaskan Conservation Center, and enjoyed an authentic Alaskan meal at the Arctic Roadrunner! It was a great end to a great week. We are so thankful to have been given the opportunity to serve in this beautiful place!
