After a long day of travel, we have finally made it to Memphis! We enjoyed some late night burgers while having our orientation meeting. We can’t wait to get started with service this week!

This morning we partnered with a Thistle and Bee, which is a ministry that helps women who have been victim to prostitution and human trafficking. We cleaned up around their house, pulled weeds, cleaned flower beds, picked up sticks, cleaned the porch, and trimmed some branches. The house looks a lot better and they were very appreciative of our work.

After lunch at Thistle and Bee, we went to Neighborhood Christian Center and got to spend time reading with the kids and played games with them afterwards!

Today we worked with Clean Memphis helping out a local nonprofit, Oasis of Hope, cleaning out and organizing their pottery closet which is used by the senior citizens they work with and their sports closet in the gymnasium. They were very grateful for our hard work and we treated ourselves to some world famous Jerry’s Sno Cones afterward!

This morning we were able to help Thistle and Bee again. This time we were helping clean machines and get ready for their honey harvest tomorrow. We also were able to learn a lot about bees and the process of making honey. Thistle and Bee uses Beekeeping to help with their ministry through funding and by giving the women a hobby or job to do!

This afternoon we came back to NCC and were greeted with many smiling faces! We read with them and helped with their activity, then closed the day with play time and distributing extra snacks to kids and families around the apartment complex.

Tonight we had the pleasure of preparing meatloaf, potatoes, green beans, and biscuits for the wonderful men at Calvary Rescue Mission. This mission houses and assists homeless men in Memphis and it is always a favorite part of most trips that come to Memphis! We are about to go to chapel with them and serve up banana pudding for dessert!
