Long-Term Relationships

Long-Term Relationships

Deanna Ver Schneider | Jan 29, 2015

When I think of good relationships, I automatically assume “long-term,” and when I think “long term relationships” I think of good relationships. They usually go hand in hand. When I think of good, long term relationships I think of Christ. My relationship with Him is long-term- one might even say eternal. So, continuing with the theme of word association- when I think of Christ, I think of the Church and once again, I think of long-term relationships. We’ve come Full Circle. The Church should be known for it’s relationships, as it is the Bride of Christ and should reflect Christ. These relationships are made in the local church, in the Universal (worldwide) Church, as well as with those we minister to. But how do you build a long-term relationship with churches that aren't around you? This is where Praying Pelican Missions comes in. We desire to be the bridge between cultures. The bridge from your local church to the local church in another location- maybe another city, another country, and who knows, maybe another planet. Our goal at Praying Pelican Missions is to foster these long term relationships between local churches. We want to build up the church (local) AND the Church (worldwide) and the only way we see fit to do that is by bringing churches together-- to work together, minister together, learn together, worship together, pray together, and play together. When you partner with us on a mission trip to any of our locations, we pray over your partnership and intentionally place with you a church in the location where you’ll be serving. We want you to be invested in the church, wholeheartedly invested in the community and what God is doing there already. We want you to be part of the local church there and build that relationship to come back year after year. Those are the relationships that make the most difference. Those are the relationships that truly bring the Church together as one body. Long-term Relationships. Many of our teams go back to the same village or city year after year and the result is amazing. Hibben United Methodist Church out of Charleston, SC is a great example. They have been going to the same church, Galilee Baptist Church with Pastor Ruperto in Belize City for the past 6 years hosting a dental clinic and starting construction on a new orphanage. Watching them talk to the community and the people in the church as if they were family was amazing. Belize was home for them, a place where long-term relationships were created and sustained- a loving home. Hibben is intentional with their relationship building, these Belizeans are their friends, their family. It didn't happen all at once, but through work and through their goal to build a long-term relationship. They have had the chance to see babies grow up and to really be part of their lives- sending letters throughout the year and visiting once a year. These families look forward to seeing Hibben every year and the feeling is mutual. IMG_5557                 Come find your family in another country. Start building long-term relationships with people all over the world and see how God is moving in all shapes and sizes. Let's bring the Church together

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Hebrews 10:24-25
