by Ronda Baldwin | June 13, 2020 8:14 PM

We made it to West Virginia, had our orientation meeting, and got settled into our rooms. We are looking forward to church tomorrow and a great week of service ahead!

Parking Lot Church

by Ronda Baldwin | June 14, 2020 12:03 PM

Due to the rain that came through this morning, outside church had to become parking lot church at Clendenin UMC. Despite the changes that need to be made in this COVID-19 season, our host church family welcomed us with kind words and car horn honks in celebration of their first mission team this season.

Our team two years ago got to be part of starting the work in Praying Pelican's home base in West Virginia, The Dock. Today we got to hear more of the vision for this old church that was flooded in 2016 and will soon be a lodging facility and center to minister to this community and church leaders in the Appalachia region. We will doing clean up and organization here later in the week.

Team Building and Story Telling

by Ronda Baldwin | June 14, 2020 4:46 PM

We took some time this afternoon to hang out at Coonskin Park to get to know each other better and talk about the importance of our stories. We split into small groups and shared our testimonies. We got done just in time to beat the rain out of the park. Ready for a relaxing time as a team tonight before our hard work starts tomorrow.

Cleaning the Charleston House

by Ronda Baldwin | June 15, 2020 9:02 PM

We spent our day cleaning out a house in Charleston that is being donated to a local ministry by a member of our host church. It was a stinky, messy job, but such a privilege to see something dirty become clean and ready to be made beautiful and usable by God. Just like Jesus does for us.

The Garage

by Ronda Baldwin | June 15, 2020 9:04 PM

The garage at the Charleston House was used by many looking for shelter it a place to do things in secret. We were able to clean it up and will secure it tomorrow.

Not your normal yard work

by Ronda Baldwin | June 15, 2020 9:08 PM

The yard has not been taken care of for many years, other than irregular trims by the city. We spent all day weed eating, clipping, cutting, raking and bagging. It looks like someone could live here now.

by Ronda Baldwin | June 16, 2020 6:57 PM

The deck entrance to the garage apartment came down in order to be safe and help secure the building now that it is cleaned out.

Despite the fact that a small circle of tile stubbornly held to the floor, it felt good to get the apartment completely cleared out and ready to be remodeled.

Securing the garage

by Ronda Baldwin | June 16, 2020 7:04 PM

We came back to the house after just one night of it being cleaned out to find evidence of drug activity in the garage. It was important to seal it up and make it very secure, not only to protect the property, but also to remove at least one place for those things to happen.

The Big Reveal

by Ronda Baldwin | June 16, 2020 7:06 PM

Before we left the Charleston house for this trip, we were blessed to be able to show the leaders of Union Mission the work we had done and the progress made towards ministry in house. Partnership makes missions sustainable long term.

Day at the Dock

by Ronda Baldwin | June 17, 2020 5:30 PM

The last time our team was in Clendenin, we got to be one of the first groups to work on the Dock, an old church that was given to Praying Pelican Missions as a hub of ministry in central West Virginia. Today we got to clean, organize, inventory and prepare the tools and supplies stored there to make things easier for their staff and future teams to find and use.

Prayer Walk and Trash Pick Up

by Ronda Baldwin | June 17, 2020 8:45 PM

We had some time after wrapping up work on the Dock to take a walk and pick up trash. We even got to meet the mayor of Clendenin and the town deputy, as well as a couple of kids who offered to let Brent use their fishing poles :)

Let's Get Dizzy!

by Ronda Baldwin | June 17, 2020 8:46 PM

Our team pick up was interrupted by a bit of playground distraction. The teens handled the merry go round much better than the adults!

Listen to the Stories

by Ronda Baldwin | June 17, 2020 8:49 PM

We have spent a lot of time this week talking about the importance of telling our story and listening to the stories of others. Tonight at dinner, Andrea, the owner of Mama Payne's restaurant, shared her testimony of God's faithfulness through the difficult birth of her son and the food of 2016.

New River Gorge Bridge

by Ronda Baldwin | June 19, 2020 12:34 AM

The first stop on our rec day was the New River Gorge Bridge. The gift shop and museum were closed due to COVID-19, but we were still able to walk down to the overlook and take in the view.

New River Waterfalls

by Ronda Baldwin | June 19, 2020 12:36 AM

After seeing the bridge from the top, we drive the very winding road to the bottom of the gorge. The water was moving very fast, and we got to climb on rocks by the waterfalls.

No Needle Eye Today

by Ronda Baldwin | June 19, 2020 12:38 AM

We had a picnic lunch at a new hiking spot called Needle Eye. We even found a turtle there! Unfortunately storms rolled in and kept us from exploring the trails.

Camp Royal

by Ronda Baldwin | June 19, 2020 12:41 AM

When we weren't able to go hiking, we switched gears and went to visit another favorite PPM partner, Camp Royal, in Glen Jean, WV. This extreme sports camp reminds kids of all ages of their Royal identity as children of the King.

After hearing about the ministry at Camp Royal, some of us were brave enough to try out the indoor pump track. It was so fun!

ACE Adventures

by Ronda Baldwin | June 19, 2020 12:43 AM

The last stop on our rec day fun was ACE Adventures, where we played in the water park until lightning forced us out of the water. It was a great end to an amazing week of ministry. We are so blessed to have been a part of reaching West Virginia with the truth of Jesus.
