Light in the Dark

Light in the Dark

Sara Marie Moore | Dec 11, 2014

A light shines brighter in deep darkness.

It’s Christmas time. Dark winter days have settled in. It is at this time of year that we remember the light of Christ, who came into the darkness of our sin and shone brightly.   And so we turn on Christmas lights in the darkness of winter’s chill: twinkling lights, glowing lights, flashing lights. We celebrate the light of Christ. On houses, in city parks, on our Christmas trees: The lights cheer us in an otherwise cold and dark season.   It is fitting that we celebrate the Light of the World in the dark days of winter. The greater the darkness, the more bright a light appears. Jesus is the one who dwells in unapproachable light; all of our darkness turns into light in the presence of his cleansing.   Spiritual light shines bright in the dark. It’s often when we feel as if we are in the dark that we see the worth and value of Christ alone. He is supreme when all the other lights around us, the things of this world, have faded out of our vision. Then he is the only light. A lone beacon.   He shines brighter and purer in the dark. It’s why the Christians you have visited in the third world seemed so joyful and happy. He is not so easily clouded out by the lights of the world where the temptations of richness are less profound.   This Christmas season take some time to turn out the lights of the world around you. We are overstimulated, inundated and coerced into the rat race of the modern age. Turn out the lights. Literally. This glowing screen, that flashing screen. You may just see a light you haven’t noticed for awhile.   The Light of the World. He is all we need.
