We're here!

by Brian Zeschke | July 17, 2016 10:13 PM

After an early morning we made it bright and early into Nassau today! We had a snack at the airport and then headed straight to Cornerstone Zion Community Church to wrap up the service with them. Right after the service we had lunch and then had some time to go visit into the community meeting people and inviting children to VBS. We were able to meet a ton of kids and spend some time playing with them at the local playground. We then headed to the camp and saw our home for the week. We got settled into our rooms, spent some time playing outside and then had dinner. We then wrapped up the evening with orientation and some time together as a team to pray. We're excited to be here and we're ready to get going with the children tomorrow morning! Please pray for our trip!

Marvelous Monday

by Katie Ringgenberg | July 18, 2016 9:04 PM

Today we woke up bright and early, ate breakfast, and hopped on the bus to the church for VBS. Children from the community joined us for a wonderful morning filled with crafts, snacks, games, bubbles, and a Bible lesson. We had a great time getting to know the kids and working as a team! After VBS we had a little bit of down time and bonded as a team through sharing life stories. In small groups we shared about our lives and got to know each other on a deeper level. Later in the afternoon we went to a children's home to hang out with the teenagers who reside there. Many of the team members played basketball with the boys. It was a great game and very fun to watch! We also got to try a fruit called gniep- it was very tasty! We spent the evening at the camp we are staying at this week. We had time to relax, have dinner, and finish the night with a service. All of us are excited for an awesome week in the Bahamas!

Tuesday's Highlights

by Kathryn Ringgenberg | July 19, 2016 8:54 PM

Janie's highlights of the day "For me, my highlights of the day would be talking to the kids and really getting to know them better. Being able to connect with them and realize how many things anybody could easily take for granted. After we went and visited elderly at a retirement home and handed out toiletries which was also really fun to hear about their life and how they spent their time. Then we went to the beach and the water was so gorgeous and it was so cool to be able to really embrace this country and all of its beauty." Amelia's highlights of the day "My highlight of the day was when we all got to the church and a few of the kids were sitting outside waiting for us and when they saw our bus pulling up you could just see the happiness in there face. Another special moment was when one of the girls playing with me just kept telling me how excited she was to come back to camp." Henry's highlights of the day "Having the opportunity to talk with Ms. Francis, a woman who works at the church we had to opportunity volunteer with. Ms. Francis and I had the opportunity to talk about the differences between the American and Bahamian education systems. It was a very interesting conversation that I'm very glad I had and it was an opportunity for me to learn more about a different culture and to make an unexpected friend."
