Forks Student Ministry

We made it to DC last night and settled in! This morning we hopped on the metro to head into the city for the day!

After lunch at food trucks we made our way to the United States Archives. We experienced looking at the original Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights! We even learned some U.S. sport history as well!

Today is our second day in DC! We started off the day with our partner Seabury Resources for Aging, an organization that helps elderly in the DC area with light house and yard work. 

We mowed, gardened, weeded, and more! We are excited to keep serving!

After lunch we did projects at the place we are staying for the week. From sorting chairs, throwing out trash bags, and organizing toys we are making a lot of progress! 

We ended our day with some worship and a powerful conversation about our God!

Today we started off the day serving with our partner Martha’s Table, an organization that has been serving the DC community for over 40 years. 

The main focus of Martha’s Table is education, food, and opportunity. Today we helped out at the market by unloading fresh produce, organizing, and preparing to hand out to the public. Anyone in the DC area has the ability to access fresh groceries two times a month!

The community nutritionist on staff helps prepare healthy recipes the community can easily make! Here we are making trail mix to pass out to the public. Martha’s Table has produced over 1 million healthy meals to families through their markets! We had an amazing time serving here! 

We finished out our third day in DC with Kids Konnection, a faith-based organization that puts on "Sidewalk Sunday School" for children in different DC neighborhoods.

Today we focused on looking at each of our spiritual gifts that we all have. Today John used his to pray for someone at Kids Konnection! 

We also had a lot of fun playing games and interacting with the kids too!

We started off the day back at Martha’s Table by unloading, preparing, and distributing food. We really enjoyed serving here!

We ended the day back at Kids Konnection with a fun group of kids! This weeks theme was Birthday Blast, so we helped with the ending celebration by setting off confetti and silly string! 

Today is our last day in DC! We started the day off early in the morning to look at the different monuments on the National Mall! 

After experiencing the monuments around DC, we headed over to the International Spy museum. We learned about past espionage tactics, saw cool gadgets, and were all given an undercover identity and mission to complete while at the museum!

After a quick lunch, we had an incredible experience at the Museum of the Bible. Here we are looking at the complete book of Isaiah, found in the Judean desert in 125 BC. We had an amazing time looking at old Biblical texts and going through interactive experiences! 

This morning was the last morning in DC. We had our last breakfast all together and cleaned up where we were staying!

After a week of serving in the DC area, it is time to go back home. We had an amazing time serving!
