Salem Lutheran Church

Everyone made it here safe and sound late last night! After some late night pizza and a brief orientation we all had a good nights sleep. Breakfast this morning was delicious and then we had an awesome time getting to know each other with seven minute stories. Everyone is excited for church this morning and for a good afternoon of projects!

This morning Salem attended and got to know Cape Coral Methodist! They sat amongst the congregation and enjoyed Pastor Kens introduction. They are super excited to go to a youth event tonight after some service projects in the church and in Ft. Myers.

Today some of Salem's team went to Sandy’s house. Sandy has been living in only three rooms of her house for 10 months since hurricane Ian. She and her daughter have needed multiple rooms gutted since September. Salem's team removed drywall and insulation. This took care of some bad water damage from the storm. Salem's team was able to make serious progress on this house in less than 2 hours and Sandy was more than thankful! Way to go Salem!

The second preschool room is almost done getting painted! The team did an awesome job being precise and working together to do a really great paint job! This was a big job and they all got it done in no time!

Today some of Salem's team went to do more work on Sandy’s house! They stapled some plastic wrapping onto the ceiling to trap the heat into the attic. This will be super beneficial for Sandy and her home!

The community of Cape Coral has been incredible to us, and today we got to give back in a serious way. We went to a community center that distributes meals on wheels, gives out three meals a day and has served their community so well after hurricane Ian. Today we helped clean up their facilities, serve lunch and bag the meal packages they give out in town. 

In devotional time we all really dwelled on the lessons learned today, the team work that was required and the community that we formed here in Cape Coral. Everyone worked really hard today in homes around the city, serving lunch at a community center and packing lunches for kids. We all saw God at work in the lives of our brothers and sisters here in Cape Coral. This is a picture of us talking about the importance of seeing God at work in all things and in each other. 

Today we had an awesome, rejuvenating day at the beach! We went to Sanibel Island then out to dinner all together. Conversations were rich and there was lots of laughter all day today.

We got to go to a place called Fabulous Finds and organize, tag and distribute clothes! We enjoyed getting to know some of the staff at the store and feel like  we were really getting to know the community here in Ft. Myers!
