This morning as we started our trip we partnered with One Hope Fellowship church here in Portland to host an outdoor church service in a local park. The team all worked together to bring over all the supplies needed and unload and set up everything to help church run smoothly!

Church in the park was amazing! So many people from the community stopped by while out on a walk or while playing at the park with kids. Some beautiful music was sang and a message in Mark 4 was delivered. Thank you to One Hope Fellowship for hosting a great event for the community!

After an amazing service the team cooked and served hot dogs and hamburgers to all those who attended and even some others from the community! The food was great and the team served graciously with smiles all around!

After a fun time at church and after helping to clean up the park it was not time for some fun sight seeing. The team made their way over to Cannon Beach on the coast of Oregon. For most of the team this was their first time seeing the Pacific Ocean! It sure was cold but it was also extremely gorgeous and worth the chill.

After a fun afternoon of swimming, enjoying the view and freezing a bit we now had to get to the plan and rules for the week. It was time for orientation. We gathered the team together and explained to them who PPM was and the expectations for the week as we head into a full week of serving in Jesus’ name. Everyone agreed upon our rules and is ready for a great week of fun and work!

After a great day of church and fun it was time for some delicious pizza for dinner. We made our way out to Seaside Oregon to go enjoy some scrumptious pizza to close out our evening. Thank you God for giving us delicious food like pizza!

On our way back to the church late at night the team wanted to stop by the grocery store to pick up some snacks and left behind essentials. While at the store we met a gentleman whom we shared our mission with and the reasoning for our teams being here in Portland this week. After sharing with him, he then asked if he could pray over the team. What an absolute blessing it was to be able to meet and pray with a local from the area where we’ll be serving this week.

This week the church we are serving alongside with is hosting a week long summer school where the kids, ages 2-6th grade, come and learn, share two meals together, play some sports, and have lots of fun! As we started the week with our students, the teachers as well as our team, who will be serving as TA’s, all got to introduce themselves. We’re super excited to serve with this amazing team as we work together to teach and equip these students for the rest of their lives!

While we had a team downstairs teach the little kiddos we also had a team upstairs packing hundreds of bags to go hang on doors in the community. These bags have coloring books and crayons, Gospel tracts, and invites to the upcoming VBS hosted by the church. After we pack 1000 bags we then get to go out one on every door in the neighborhoods surrounding the church.

Once the teachers were all introduced they then divided the kids by their grade and sent them to their classrooms. Here we can see one of our team members teaching a young room of students some math.

One of the special classes that they sent the students to for extra learning is a financial education class. The teacher taught them how to wisely use their money and showed them how to best prepare for their future.

One of the other special classes that they offered to the kids was gardening. We had a neighborhood gardener come in and show the kids how to plant and how to care for plants.

After a full day in the classroom it was time to take it outside and learn in the sun! We took all the kids out and played some games to use up some energy.

After the day of lessons and classroom learning it was now time for our sports camp. We took all the kids down to a local park where we divided them into groups then taught them how to play a select few sports. What a great opportunity this was to play some fun games and have a great time in the sun with these kids.

One of the sports we were wanting to coach the kids in is basketball. We decided who would be the coaches and planned on coaching them in the fundamentals of basketball.

Another one of the games for the sports camp was pickle-ball. We taught the kids how to pass the ball to each other and then even held a competition to see who could hit it against their own paddle the most times. The record is 225! That’s insane!

After a full day with the kids of learning, games, and lots of fun we had to say our goodbyes for the day and we’ll see them tomorrow morning! But our work isn’t quite done yet. Now we’re onto doing some projects around the church. One of the big projects the church has asked us to help with us cleaning then re-striping the parking lot. Here we have some team members lead blowing the parking lot to get it clean before a deep wash.

As we head into our second day of work we welcomed back all the students to continue learning and keep playing sports in the afternoon with us. We have students from grades 2-6. So many kids here learning so many great things. As our TA’s continue to work with the kids they also continue to create relationships with them.

One of the special classes that the school offers for the students is an engineering class. While I’m this class the students learn how to assemble a wooden machine which has moving parts and uses a battery to power it. These kids were creating some awesome things! Even our TA’s were getting stumped on how to build them!

Another one of the awesome classes that the students were able to attend was a cooking class. Here they would work with their TA’s to cut and prepare a meal as well as cleaning up after. The TA’s did a great job making sure everyone was safe and learned lots!

After a great day of learning we took all the students to the park for the sports camp. Here we can see some of our amazing coaches teaching some kiddos how to play soccer. They had them practice dribbling as well as passing. After all their practice they were then able to show off their skills in a full on game of soccer.

Another one of the awesome sports we coached the kiddos in was volleyball. While the kids would play volleyball our amazing coaches would first start them in some stretches to make sure everyone was ready for all the practice coming up. They would them show them how to not only overhand set but also underhand set a ball and get it ready to be spiked!

The team worked so hard today. With first the school then the sports camp, it was time for a little bit of a break. To explore the beauty of Oregon the team went on a trip to Multnomah Falls just outside of Portland. This waterfall is over 500ft tall! Some of the team even hiked over 2 miles to the top of the waterfall to see the beauty from a different angle. How crazy is it that God created something so beautiful and amazing for us to see!

As we go into day three of work it was time for the teams to switch work cites and now it was our turn to paint! Our job was to put on the second coat and finish off the amazing work the first team had started the first two days. Part of this work project was helping an elderly member from the church repaint her house. We were painting the bathroom as well as the front porch. After this new coat of paint it looked brand new again!

Half of the team was painting the bathroom inside as well as the hallway leading to the bathroom. It looks great but somehow everyone on the team got paint all over themselves! Should’ve seen this coming!

After 3 amazing days of work with the home owner we were able to finish the job! We repainted her kitchen, hallway, and front porch as well as prepared the kitchen to be painted soon. Such great work from everyone on the team! The home owner is so thankful for all the amazing work and thanks God for sending all these amazing kids to serve her in such a humble manner!

After a great morning of work finishing the painting project it was time to go set up for day 3 of the sports camp with the school students. Everything got setup in record time and we were able to have some fun and play some games before all the students showed up!

After a full day of the painting and sports camp with the kids we were off to go door to door putting the goodie bags on every door possible. These goodie bags had some coloring books, flyers for church, and invited to the upcoming VBS. We got over 800 bags handed out! Great job to everyone and no, Drew did not “win” ;)

While everyone else was out running goodie bags to every surrounding house a few brave souls stayed behind to re-stripe the parking lot. It took lots of precise work and had no room for mistakes. The boys did great and it completely refreshes the parking lot! Great work guys!

To start our morning we met with Pastor Ricardo so he could give us a quick lesson on door to door evangelism. He showed us what resources he uses and what strategy works best with the locals of Portland. After our training we then hit the streets. So many amazing stories of people we were able to meet and so many beautiful seeds were planted! Great work bringing Jesus to Portland!

As we go into the sports camp on day 4, our final day of sports camp with the kids, we started the afternoon with a few amazing testimonies. Up first was David. David shared his heart behind serving and shared his life verse which is Psalm 20:7. It was so awesome to hear David’s testimony and what a great opportunity it was for the kids to get to know him a little bit better.
