We Made it to DC!

by Mia Wichmann | July 30, 2022 9:53 PM

After a long drive, we are all settled in at First Baptist Church of Waldorf. We are playing a few rounds of apples to apples tonight before we get ready for service and exploring DC tomorrow.

Radically Loving on Neighbors through Fellowship

by Mia Wichmann | July 31, 2022 12:44 PM

We joined in with the youth this morning and had great conversations. Afterwards we were all encouraged by Pastor Randy’s sermon on radical love.

We all enjoyed our food at Noodles & Company. FBC Waldorf generously treated us to lunch. Now we are on our way into DC.

Worship Never Stops

by Morgan Shepherd | July 31, 2022 3:20 PM

After lunch, we headed to the National Mall. Our first stop, David’s Tent, is a 24/7-365 worship tent! We joined in on the worship for a little while, and now we are on to some museums.

Natural History Museum

by Mia Wichmann | July 31, 2022 4:48 PM

From the grand entrance with the elephant statue to the whale, from the skeletons and mummies to gems and the hope diamond, we came, we saw, we conquered the Natural History Museum. It was a great time to enjoy DC and start off our week.

Martha’s Table

by Mia Wichmann | August 1, 2022 10:29 PM

This morning we served at Martha’s Table in their joyful bagging ministry. Instead of people coming into the building to pick up food, since Covid, they have prepared bags of food. Each bag has pasta, potatoes, onions, and fruit. We assembly-line packaged hundreds of food bags to be handed out later.

We help load up bags to be handed out at another part of DC, Martha’s Table @ The Maycroft in Northwest DC.

Praying Over DC and Those Experiencing Homelessness

by Mia Wichmann | August 1, 2022 10:42 PM

Many of us stretched ourselves this afternoon, initiating conversations with strangers and praying over them. While nervous at first, we realized we had more in common than we originally thought. These new friends were an amazing blessing to our day and week so far.

Some of Us Went to SOME

by Morgan Shepherd | August 2, 2022 7:26 AM

The other half of our group went to So Others May Eat (SOME). We helped make sandwiches, pack food bags, and prayed over the people that would be receiving the food.

After our ministry sites, we got to check out the American History Museum and walk a bit of the National Mall and see the monuments and memorials!

Kid's Konnection

by Mia Wichmann | August 2, 2022 8:17 PM

This morning we helped organize toys, props, baby clothes, and some school supplies at Kid's Konnection. It was such a blessing to Sherrita, to step in and organize her ministry items- something that would’ve taken a while to get through herself.

Eye Opening Prayer

by Mia Wichmann | August 3, 2022 6:43 AM

This afternoon a group of us did homeless ministry and prayer walking. It was a great experience to understand that even in the nation’s capital so many people are struggling. We notified how many of them just wanted someone to listen. They, like us, are full of stories.

Some Can Organizing

by Morgan Shepherd | August 3, 2022 8:25 AM

The other half of our group went to SOME where we helped organize their food pantry. We organized cans by the expiration and sorted through donations.

And The Ferris Wheel No One Went On

by Morgan Shepherd | August 3, 2022 8:32 AM

To end our day, we went to the National Harbor! We got ice cream, explored some shops, and had a yummy chicken dinner at Nando’s!

Making a Way for New Growth

by Mia Wichmann | August 3, 2022 7:44 PM

This morning we worked with Age in Place to assist seniors in their homes. Today, this included yard work. We weeded away and got rid of the dead to make way for new growth. Just like this week, we put aside our opinions, didn’t make excuses, and got uncomfortable for Jesus.

Ready to Feed Those in Need

by Mia Wichmann | August 3, 2022 7:59 PM

This afternoon we saw how Martha’s Table serves the community. We can’t wait for people to come to us (at their building), instead, we have to go out into the community (setting up markets in food deserts) to be the hands and feet of Christ.

Strangers to Friends

by Morgan Shepherd | August 4, 2022 7:13 PM

In the evening, we got to join the church’s youth group! We played crab soccer, Brad led us in worship, and we shared testimonies from the week so far. We had a really fun time getting to know the other youth a little and making new friends!

Pandastic Time

by Mia Wichmann | August 6, 2022 9:02 AM

Despite it being hot and many animals hid in the shade/indoors we had a great time visiting the zoo!

Reflection

by Mia Wichmann | August 6, 2022 9:04 AM

We visited the holocaust museum and reflected on the past and the dictatorship Hitler created. We are reminded of how we must treat everyone with radical love and respect.
