Pastor had just finished seminary when in 1988, his mentor and guide had to move on. Determined not to give up on what he knew was God's calling for him, he moved with his wife Nuria and their three sons to Filadelfia. Despite people telling them they couldn’t build a church building, they believed and the money was raised, with $240 to spare! 34 years later, Pastor’s inspiring story of faith continues and the church is still going strong and impacting the community with strong relationships woven throughout - school, hospital, college, nursing home, and even its residents.

Pastor Fidel is the lead pastor at Iglesia Biblica Sinai in Filadelfia, Costa Rica. Growing up, his grandmother was the one who raised him. He went through highs and lows in life, struggling with depression, suicidal thoughts, and alcoholism. At the age of 20, his doctor told him he was running out of chances and he would die if he didn’t change his ways. Through it all, his grandmother kept the faith and believed in him. One week, she prophesied over him that he would be a preacher. Just three days later he went to church and sat in the last row. He heard John 3:16 and the preacher talked about love - he realized that he had never experienced a love like that. He immediately accepted salvation and turned his life around with the help of Christ. He had a passion for the lost after he got saved, especially for drug addicts. Over time, he started to feel the call to ministry and one day he was asked to share his testimony at a crusade. He shared and they had an altar call, where 50 people gave their life to Christ. After that he knew he wanted to go to seminary and follow the calling God had placed on his life.
