Hurricane Dorian - The Carolinas

PPM Disaster Response: Hurricane Dorian - The Carolinas

Want Info?

After Hurricane Dorian tore through the Bahamas, its path turned northward along the East Coast. Cities like Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina had surge flooding throughout the streets and very high winds. As Dorian has continued on, it has caused tornadoes throughout eastern North Carolina, causing significant damage.

Many of the communities that were affected by Hurricane Florence less than a year ago sustained damage from Dorian, including northeastern North Carolina, where Hurricane Dorian officially made landfall in Cape Hatteras. The Outer Banks of North Carolina were hit the hardest as the storm passed across the islands with high winds, significant rainfall, and large storm surges.

Flooding is the primary concern in northeastern North Carolina. Please continue to pray for those being affected by this storm.

Updates From The Field

After the Storm

by Deanna Ver Schneider | September 8, 2019 2:24 AM

Flooding in the Outerbanks of NC reached record levels during Hurricane Dorian and the aftermath of it once the flood waters receded showed a great amount of damage. Impassable roads, torn apart homes and piers are just a few of the things Dorian damaged. Please be praying for the community as they begin to rebuild and getting back on their feet. Our friends and partners in the Wilmington area have already begun the rebuilding, feeding those displaced, and meeting needs where they can.

If you are able, please consider donating to The Carolina's relief as this money goes directly to our partners who are serving their community.

After the Storm

North Eastern NC

by Deanna Ver Schneider | September 6, 2019 6:46 PM

Early this morning, Dorian made landfall at Cape Hatteras and has continued to batter the Outer Banks and the rest of Northeastern North Carolina. Okracoke Island has seen historic storm surge and has started bringing in helicopters for air-rescues. This area is currently the most heavily damaged and impacted in North Carolina and they are still seeing impacts as the storm moves away from the area.

Moving along the NC Coast

by Deanna Ver Schneider | September 6, 2019 6:40 PM

Yesterday Dorian scraped by the NC coast and the eye just barely missed the Cape Fear Look out, though it still sent storm surge and hurricane force winds all down the coast. Looking at Southeast NC today, though there have been some losses and damage, ultimately, most of our partners in the Southeastern region walked away without too much to report.

First Impacts

by Deanna Ver Schneider | September 6, 2019 6:05 PM

Yesterday Dorian started to make it's way into NC spawning damaging tornadoes in the hurricane's outer bands, including in an area we served in last summer. While the loss of property was significant, we are praising God that no one was reported injured or killed by these tornadoes!
