So you’re taking a group on a mission trip? Awesome. Do you ever think about how things may change within the group of people you are leading after the trip is over? Here’s 5 ways we’ve recognized that mission trips directly impact groups!
Your group will have the chance to unify and bond in a profound way during your trip. There’s nothing that bonds people together like service. Serving and stepping out of your comfort zone alongside others doing the same thing, makes everyone feel a little vulnerable and that vulnerability can be the foundation for life-change!
One of our favorite things that serving on mission brings about is new relationships and friendships. There’s just something about living in close proximity to folks from your church with whom maybe you don’t get the chance to spend a lot of time with otherwise that opens up the floor for communication and deep connection. After the trip is over, encourage these friendships as best you can by hosting a coffee-meetup or lunch every so often, just to check in with each other!
Serving outside of your own city allows for the group to minister to new people in new situations. This helps everyone on the team expand and refine their skills of sharing their faith and the Gospel. These skills can then be implemented once you return home, in your local mission field.
One of the deepest ways you might find your group to be changed on their mission trip is in their perspective once they return home. Gaining a world-perspective is so important and you might find that your group challenges you to run more fundraisers, serve more locally, hold donation drives and the like. These little changes are evidence of a much bigger heart and mind change happening within your group since their mission trip.
After the trip, you might find a renewed passion and fire within your group to share the Gospel within your community. This is due to seeing the global Church in action and having the chance to share the Gospel on the trip! We encourage you to do everything you can to encourage this revival within your team. Schedule a few hours each week/month to impact your community and share the Gospel - even just by prayer walking in certain areas of your city!
