Five Tips to Debrief Well Each Evening of Your Mission Trip
1. Worship
- Always try to have a time of music and worship to begin the meeting. We feel like this sets the atmosphere, re-centers the focus for the meeting and brings about a specific unity among the members of the team.
- Music tends to warm people up to speaking more openly together.
2. Have leading questions
- Have a prepared question to promote good conversation! Some of our favorites are:
- If you were to Tweet right now to sum up your day - what would it say?
- What was something you experienced today that you’ve never experienced before?
- Did you see God working in another member of your team today?
3. New sharing strategies
- Partner share - group everyone up in pairs, have them share a highlight and a lowlight from the day
- Open share - open up the floor for anyone to share
- Nomination share - the group can nominate someone they know has a great story to share
4. Share a lesson
- God’s the God of the NATIONS - not just your hometown
- Material Poverty is not the only kind of poverty
- Relationships matter - why it’s important to know the name of those you are connecting with
- Bringing the mission home - continuing your service in your hometown. Missions is everywhere!
5. End in prayer
- Ask specific team member to lead
- For youth groups who need guidance, give different team members specific topics to cover in prayer
- You wrap up the prayer in positivity for the next day!
