When disasters strike, the Church is on the front lines of response and relief efforts, working with local authorities and organizing grassroots efforts to meet the pressing needs of their communities.
Follow along with teams as they serve in disaster areas around the world, and also read about the experiences of past teams who have served in those areas through Praying Pelican Missions. Our disaster trip journals are a great way to stay connected with those support teams as they work locally and internationally to offer encouragement and assist the local Church in what might be their greatest time of need!
We have had a long day of travel, but we've finally made it safe in Belize! All of our medical supplies made it through customs with no major hassle, as well as our personal luggage. Praise God! We're thankful to finally be in our home away from home in Orange Walk, Belize. Although tired, we are very ready and excited for the week before us. Please continue to pray for us as we do God's work down here in Belize!
We had the privilege on Sunday to join in worship with the community at Life Ministries Church here in Orange Walk. We worshiped through song, and were blessed with a lesson from the book of Hebrews. It was a great morning for everyone! We spent our afternoon traveling to, and exploring the Mayan ruin site called Lamanai! We drove over an hour to hike back into the rainforest. We got to see several Mayan Temples and monuments some of which we climbed (as you can see from the picture!). The team closed the night with dinner and a quick team meeting. Much rest is needed for this full week of service!
We had our first day of clinics today and they were a great success! Patients were already waiting for us as we pulled up to The People's Stadium in Orange Walk to start our day around 7:30AM. We saw hundreds of patients today who received either medical, dental, or visual correction services. It was a full day, but also a very rewarding day as the people of the community were so very thankful for the services that they had received. Continue to pray for us as we continue to serve the people of Belize!
Tuesday and Wednesday seem to have flown by and we can't believe the last day of clinics is already upon us!
On Tuesday, we drove 15 minutes to the nearby town of San Jose. The school let us completely take over and set up our clinics. Although it rained for the majority of the day, people came out of the woodwork to be seen by our doctors and dentists. We enjoyed pinadas for lunch; prepared for and given as a gift from the community.
Wednesday took us to the northern town of Libertad. The community center was generous enough to host us. Thanks to the rain staying away until the very end of the day, we were able to see the most people yet! It was hot in the clinics and we were exhausted by the end of the day. We celebrated such a busy day by dining at a Caribbean seaside resort and enjoying the breeze off the ocean. Mexico was only 6 miles to our north.
Today brings us to the community of Sarteneja. We are excited to serve the people living there and the 4 surrounding villages. Please continue to pray for our energy levels and that God brings exactly the right people to these clinics.
You all look great! Busy, too. I am thinking about you and praying for each and every one of you. Can't wait to hear more about the mission when you all get home. God Bless you in all that you do. Love and Peace....DEB

God is good. All of our luggage arrived on our plane. The team worked hard Saturday afternoon to sort the supplies into dental, medial and vision areas.
We were told the lines will be long o Monday to see us.
This morning we are headed to church service then off to see a ruin before we have dinner.
