Sunday

by Brian Zeschke | April 10, 2017 8:53 AM

Sunday, our first full day here in the Bahamas, was an excellent day! We got to sleep in a little and then enjoy an easy breakfast before heading off to church. Church was ONLY 2 hours long but it was so lively and active that it doesn't seem very long. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and we felt like we belonged instead of feeling like visitors. After church we went back to the camp and had some lunch before heading out for a little relaxing tour of some areas of Nassau. We visited the "Queen's Staircase" and then visited a little fruit stand among some other sites. In the evening we got to relax and have a little bonfire before having some devotions and getting to bed. It was a great first day and we're looking forward to our week and making more friends! Pray for us as we serve this week!

The Queen's Staircase

by Brian Zeschke | April 10, 2017 8:55 AM

The staircase was built by slaves in the 1600s as an escape route from a nearby fort. The staircase has 66 steps which were cut out by hand.

Day 1: Chaos

by Jenna Singletary | April 11, 2017 11:46 AM

Chaos, intense, and accepting are just a few words that described our day yesterday! We are working at a school this week with kiddos from nursery to 6th grade! Yesterday we hung out in a Pre-K classroom and worked on our alphabet, numbers, and colors. We were able to play many games including an Easter Egg hunt and practiced writing our letters in shaving cream. The kids had a blast! The afternoon included the daunting task of loving on precious babies in the nursery, organizing a catch-all closet, and digging a hole for a cross to be placed. We debriefed the day with a bonfire and s'mores before ending the night. The people are spectacular and the food is magnificent! Island life is definitely treating us well!

Kids, Kids, and more Kids

by Jenna Singletary | April 12, 2017 8:33 AM

Day 2 was fantastic! We had a delicious breakfast of pancakes and bacon before we headed back to the school to help in the classrooms. Yesterday we divided and conquered! We all split into pairs so that we could hang out with the older kids. Many rounds of "Duck, Duck, Goose" and "Red Light, Green Light" were played. We even had the joy of helping with a little teaching! After lunch at the school we packed up some groceries and headed out for food distribution before hitting the streets with fliers for a Women's Prayer Gathering at a local park on Thursday! Once all of our work was done we were surprised with a trip to the beach where we enjoyed the beautiful waters and sand of the Bahamas! We ended our night with Mr. T's famous fried conch fritters and some basketball. It was a great day!

Join Us!

by Jenna Singletary | April 12, 2017 8:39 AM

Join us in praying for the people who were invited to the Women's Unite Prayer Gathering! We passed out fliers to cars as they stopped at this intersection. Pray for the women that will lead, the women that will gather, and the women who will hear about Jesus for the first time! We were honored to be just a small part of this event.

Easter Break

by Jenna Singletary | April 13, 2017 7:38 AM

Yesterday was a full day! We started the day back at the school for a craft day. It was report card day so school ended at noon and many kids didn't attend. To help the teachers out we gathered at the picnic table area and had different craft stations set up for all the students. We made bracelets, finger painted, and glued cotton balls to sheep. It was fun! We ate a delicious lunch of beef patties and coco bread. Then we headed back to camp to prep for the night. We cut out cardboard letters for the church that say "RISEN" for their Easter services and made the set up for our youth night. The youth arrived around 6 and we played lots of games, shared a Bible Story, built bird houses, and ended with a big Easter Egg Hunt! It was a perfect end to our work week. Today we are headed out on a beach adventure!

Food Distribution

by Jenna Singletary | April 13, 2017 7:44 AM

This week we have also had the joy of participating in a ministry called Food Distribution. We were able to buy groceries for several different families and deliver them. While we were with the families we were able to hear their story, what they do, learn about their kiddos, and pray for them. This ministry is one of those little ways that we got to share the love of Jesus by meeting a physical need.

Rec Day!

by Jenna Singletary | April 13, 2017 8:18 PM

We ended our time in the Bahamas with a gorgeous day on the beach! We were able to do some shopping downtown before heading for burgers by the sea! We played in the water, built sand castles, and got a little too much sun. We ended the day by going to Jaws beach and watching the sunset. Our time in the Bahamas has been fantastic, but we are ready to begin the long trek home!

We've been having our daily evening Holy Week services and each night we ask special prayers for all of you. You are acting out what we are learning: showing the love of Jesus by sharing nonjudgmental love. You are our extension. May God add to your serving and learning each day

Praise the LORD! You got there safely, but you missed out on the Sunday Morning SNOW! We had about 4.5 to 5.0 inches out here to the east of Cody. We will be praying for safety, opportunities to witness, and successful classes for the kids.

Glad you made it safe and sound without any travel hiccups (no "kidnapping" suspicions when you tried to leave the country ... David, you should ask Anna about that!). We look forward to hearing about your adventures as you serve Jesus throughout Holy Week. HOSANNA, HOSANNA, HOSANNA! Love to each of you, O&Q
