We are here!

by Robin Parkes | March 11, 2017 10:34 PM

We made it to Memphis! This afternoon we met the rest of our group and trip leaders at Monument of Love Baptist Church. There, we got to welcome people for the Compassion 3-1-1 concert. We also got to attend the concert and worship alongside people from the community. We ended our night with dinner at Tops BBQ right down the street from the church. Now, we are resting up for church in the morning!

Church!

This morning we got to join the church in Sunday School and worship! For Sunday School, we split up into the different age group classes and had an awesome time discussing godly principles with the church members. The worship was full of energy and praising God. We got to hear some more great singing and a message from Pastor Joyce's father.

Nursing Home Visit

by Robin Parkes | March 12, 2017 10:48 PM

After church, we had a short orientation meeting and got to eat lunch. We then went with Pastor Joyce over to the Graceland Nursing Home. Pastor Joyce goes to minister there on the 2nd Sunday of every month. We got to help the men and women get into the room where we had another short church time filled with singing, testimonies, prayer, and a message. Some of us got to participate by reading scripture, sharing testimonies, and praying. After the service, we got to visit with the men and women while taking them back to their rooms.

This morning we had a slight change of plans due to some rainy weather. We started the morning with a conversational training. We got to know each other better and learn some new things to help us in talking to others this week. Afer that, we got to go to the Community of St. Therese of Liseiux. Sandra, the founder, met us there and shared about the ministry she started for women with backgrounds of addiction and prostitution.

After a wonderful dinner prepared by Sister Robinson, we headed over to Calvary Rescue Mission. This is a place for homeless men to come and eat dinner, have a Chapel service, and have a place to sleep. We got to attend the Chapel service and we had cupcakes and cookies for them afterwards. While they ate their sweets, we got to sit and talk with them and here some of their stories.

After meeting with the large group, we broke up into small groups for discussion one last time. It has been so special to have that time with them. To end the day, we had more face painting, basketball, finger nail painting, and coloring. We were all having such a fun time the kids did not even want to leave.
