Arrival!

Greetings from Jamaica! We have arrived safely and a picture of us will be posted soon! We are already busy at our ministry sites, so be praying for us as we are serving the Lord!

VBS

by Lindsey | July 12, 2010 12:27 PM

This morning, we helped lead VBS at a small Jamaican church. In spite of the church's size, around 50 kids joined us for songs, games, crafts and stories! We shared some songs with them, and they shared some songs with us, joining us up front and showing us the actions to their songs enthusiastically. We played "football" (soccer), red light/green light, etc. The kids were provided with paper plates and crayons, decorating them to put dry beans in, staple together, and shake as maracas. We shared the story of Jericho, and marched around the church seven times while shaking our maracas and singing loud. We're excited to continue working together with the Jamaican church to further His kingdom. Thank you for your prayers!

It's already mid-week!

Every day this week, we've been helping with two vacation Bible schools; one is in the morning at a church called Parry Town, and the other is in the afternoon at a church called Ocho Rios Baptist. We've loved singing songs with them, doing crafts, telling Bible stories, and letting the little girls "plat" (braid) our hair. The other night, we listened to a lecture about Jamaican history and culture. It was very interesting to learn about how things are here and why they're that way. Today, we went to an infirmary, which is a government-run place where people live if they can't take care of themselves and there's no one to take care of them. We talked and prayed with the people there, and it was very eye-opening. Please continue to pray for us. Thank you!

Last day of ministry

by Brian Zeschke | July 16, 2010 3:42 PM

Today was a sad day as we finished up with ministry this morning. We went to Perrytown Baptist Church this morning and led VBS for the final time there. The children were all sad to see us leave, but we know that they enjoyed their time with us this week. The church also appreciated us as they left us with some small gifts. We will never forget their faces. . . On a lighter note, as we left for lunch we headed down into Ocho Rios for some fun time and shopping. So today we're "pon di beach", as the Jamaicans say, and getting some time to relax before we head out tomorrow. Thank you for your continued prayers and please pray for safety as we leave tomorrow. We'll see you all very soon!
