Sometimes it is hard to put into words the experiences you have (whether good or bad). Today in the infirmary all that was seen from every team member, resident in the infirmary, or bystander was love. The infirmary in Jamaica is different you could say. The individuals could be there simply because they are blind or for other complex reasons. When you first walk in you are almost in disbelief at the conditions, nothing like an infirmary at home. And, these conditions can be hard to digest and it almost puts up a personal barrier onto you. It is hard to push your comfort zone and break down that personal wall sometimes and really get to stop and take the time to get to know more about someone, be at home or in a different country. Most residents have a bed, some bedding, and a few personal care items (It is hard to digest no matter how many times you have seen). But, despite these hard conditions the joy on some of their faces is hard to put into words. How can a person with so little be so happy...
I guess this could lead into some of the encounters the team had today. Whether it be through prayer, reading scripture, or singing songs happiness and joy was spread through everyone. Through the trials they have had they still praise and serve our wonderful, loving God. I guess this brings me to a story I have from the day. When walking around a lady actually stopped me and we just had some small talk back and forth. After explaining we were here with PPM she actually stopped and prayed for me and my safety and that God would work through my life. What an amazing thing that somebody who does not even know me is praying for me. I challenge myself and everyone to choose someone to pray for this week (even if you do not know them).
As many of the parents know we brought down many toiletries to hand out in the infirmary. This kind gesture was more than well received. Like I said earlier its hard to explain the smiles that was brought to their faces from something as simple as a washcloth and toothbrush. All of these smiles though could not have been accomplished without all of you back home and from God. Every single item was handed out and will be used by the residents. You all helped to change someones life today. Again, our entire team and staff could not thank you enough.
Before I finish my mumble jumble mess of the day just try not to forget to pray for someone today. Ask them when you are eating lunch with coworkers, etc. Such a small gesture could lead you to the gospel message.

Great job! So thankful for each of you who are being "living sacrifices" for Jesus to the people of Jamaica. May God give strength to your bodies, grace to your lips, joy to your soul, and peace to your hearts.

I'm so incredibly excited for this team and week! I see lots of new faces that I know will be transformed by God's work throughout this week, and I'm sorrowful I can't be there but equally anticipating my trip in Providence. Please know that I'll be praying for all of you and feel free to give me specific prayer requests as well! Say hi to Rohan, David, and Wade for me, and let them know I'm working as an ATL as well now. Enjoy the food, sun, and sweat! Get uncomfortable!
