Here in Guatemalaby Holly Mirau | July 11, 2015 11:29 AM
We made it! All the flights were on time and we had a nice night of sleep at a Bible Institute here in Guatemala City. Adam even let us sleep on the bunk beds instead of our sleeping mats! We're spending the morning preparing for the week and getting ready to receive the other group we will be sharing the week with.
On the roadby Holly Mirau | July 11, 2015 7:50 PM
We've been heading to Rio Dulce this afternoon after we picked up our new friends from Wellspring UMC (of Tampa, FL). We stopped for a tasty dinner about halfway and are cruising onward toward the church. We're really looking forward to starting ministry with the church tomorrow!
Sunday school funby Holly Mirau | July 13, 2015 3:27 PM
We took over Sunday school at the church (at pastor's request, of course!) and had a blast with games, bible stories, and the parachute. It was great that we had a chance to make a solid connection with the kids early on.
Bead it upby Holly Mirau | July 13, 2015 3:29 PM
We did some beading for crafts on Sunday. Kids here sure love to work with their hands!
Community walkby Holly Mirau | July 13, 2015 3:32 PM
After lunch, we headed out into the community to say hello and invite kids to our program for the week. People were friendly and open to talking with us a bit, which was really encouraging. We also got a better feel for where we are staying, practically right on the river here in town. Río Dulce is beautiful!
VBSby Holly Mirau | July 14, 2015 2:06 PM
We weren't sure exactly how many kids to expect and we ended up with 80! We were able to play games, do a craft, and sing songs with them. It's an awesome day to minister to both the kids and their parents.
Puppet showby Holly Mirau | July 14, 2015 2:08 PM
We finished our time in VBS with s puppet show in Spanish. Even though we got a few of the words wrong, the kids loved it!
Work projectby Holly Mirau | July 14, 2015 2:20 PM
This morning, most of the group went out to do some more home visits with food bags to give away while a few of the guys started at the church to work on a project. Power tools on a ladder, anyone?
