We Made It!!!!by Liz Drennan | April 7, 2014 5:45 PM
We made if safely to Sells, AZ and the Tohono O'Odham reservation Saturday evening. We spent the evening getting settled in for our week of ministry here. We spent some time getting to know a few neighborhood kids who came to the church. We then settled in to rest for Sunday morning service. Here on the reservation internet and cell service is hard to find, but we will keep everyone updated as often as we can! Thank you to everyone back home who is in prayer for us!
Sunday Morning Fellowshipby Liz Drennan | April 7, 2014 6:19 PM
Sunday we attended the Sunday morning service and were able to meet the members of the church from the local community. The children's choir blessed us with a song, as well as the adkut choir. We heard a message from Pastor Jay about Jesus entering into Jerusalem before he was crucified. After church we joined the congregation for a time of fellowship celebrating the children with cake and ice cream. First Papago Baptist Church is very much alive, and we were honored be alongside them on Sunday morning.
Christian Communityby 46775843.6577 | April 8, 2014 4:06 PM
Sunday night we traveled to an outlying village in the reservation to a small home church. Ms. Joanita was the only Christian in her small village for many years, and lived in an old home with dirt adobe floors. She dreamed to have a place to be in community with other Christians. Last year, God blessed her with a new home that is also a small church. We joined her for a Bible study, and ate dinner together. Before we left, we prayed for her home, and her ministry in the village.
Visiting the Eldersby Lucy Hewitt | April 8, 2014 4:17 PM
Monday morning we went to a nursing home and senior center on the reservation. A lot of the residents there are elders in the tribe. We spent time doing arts and crafts while getting to know their stories. Scarlett played her guitar for some of the residents and some of the littles ones played cards with them. We were blessed with such a sweet time of fellowship.
Kid's Clubby Lucy Hewitt | April 8, 2014 4:25 PM
Monday evening some of the local children gathered at First Papago Baptist Church for a time of playing, singing, and fun! While everyone was arriving we played some songs and sang about Jesus and danced together. Then we split up in to groups and started to really get to know the kids. Our lessons this week will focus on who Jesus is. We can't wait to see what God has in store for us.
The Work of a Discipleby Lucy Hewitt | April 9, 2014 12:08 AM
Today we worked around the church. Some of us were building a deck for a house while others were organizing clothes in a closet. The deck will provide a clean place for groups to gather. Others took on the job of patience, also known as painting the church. Everyone today was hard working and through their hard work God was present.
Little People Big Prayersby Lucy Hewitt | April 9, 2014 12:16 AM
This afternoon we split in to groups and walked about the reservation. We had some of the little pelicans pray over the abandoned houses. Although these girls are small their prayers are powerful and big. We saw a small part of God's broken world and are praying for big changes in his kingdom.
Party Day!by Lucy Hewitt | April 10, 2014 1:26 AM
This evening we wrapped up Kid's Club. There was a blowup obstacle course for the bigger kids and a blowup play area for the younger kids. We also had a popcorn machine, ice cone machine, and a DJ. All the kids were laughing and eating loads of sugary snacks. This was definitely a fun day for people of all ages. Even the adults got in to some of the party music. You could see the love of Jesus spreading infectiously even during the cha cha slide.
Time to Say Goodbye by 55543550.9318 | April 11, 2014 2:43 PM
The week went by like a flash and before we knew we were hugging at vans to part ways. We didn't get out of here with out some recreation time though. Yesterday we spent the day at Kitt's Peak. The huge telescope that we looked through revealed sun spots and also showed us just how big God really is. As we headed down the mountain we stopped at the Coyote store for souvenirs. The rest of the day was filled with cleaning even the littlest of helpers jumped in.
