Arrival

by Jonathan Baarda | May 8, 2025 12:05 PM

After many hours of flying the team arrived at the airport in Athens. Immediately we jumped into a van for about 4 and half hours driving. After some driving we took a little break and tasted some Greek souvlaki. And on the way again. Stephan, driver and working for Hellenic Ministries also took his daughter Rebecca and she blends in just perfect. We are all excited and getting to know eachother.

Meeting Zina

by Jonathan Baarda | May 8, 2025 3:42 PM

At 20:30 we arrived in Ioannina, where Zina waited for us with Persian food. She had help cooking from a family from the refugee camp that recently came to faith with their little 5 month old Immanuel Raphael. After food we talked about preparing for mission and soon it was late. This week we will support Zina in her work at the refugee camp

Meeting Zina

Zina

by Jonathan Baarda | May 8, 2025 3:46 PM

She was born in Iran and came to Jesus and she decided to follow Jesus and works basically alone in the refugee camp. Everybody knows her as mama Zina. This name is a high form of respect.

Devotion

Our first day of serving! We started off with worship. It was a great day and Nataly led the worship

Testimony

by Jonathan Baarda | May 9, 2025 2:51 PM

After breakfast, worship and devotion time, it was time for Zina to share story. How God, after being raised in Iran, pulled her to give her life to Jesus. And how she had to flee to Europe and God convinced het to start working with refugees in Ioannina. An amazing story.

Cleaning

by Jonathan Baarda | May 9, 2025 2:56 PM

How can we serve Zina and the ministry? Today we helped her to clean the ministry center called 'new life'

It gave us joy and it was fun to do. We cleaned the windows, washed curtains, cleaned kitchen and garden and more.

Practicing Devotions

by Jonathan Baarda | May 9, 2025 3:03 PM

Around 4 o'clock we went out to practice our devotions, getting ready for tomorrow , when refugees come for a meeting to the center. This meeting is about sharing food, time, worship and testimonies. For this occasion we went to the lake and had a great encounter with a local man, who walked up to us and received prayer from us.

Praying for the City

by Jonathan Baarda | May 9, 2025 3:10 PM

We decided to climb the old Acropolis of the town. Old Byzantine city walls. On top we took time to pray for the city and we enjoyed the scenery as well. A well spent day. After dinner we talked about what we had seen today and prepared for meeting refugees tomorrow.

Covenant

by Jonathan Baarda | May 10, 2025 3:54 PM

We started with breakfast at the new life center and after that we took some time for devotion and worship. Together we tried to connect in a group statement about our purpose in serving and what we commit ourselves to.

Covenant

Preparation

by Jonathan Baarda | May 10, 2025 4:01 PM

The last preparation before the refugees would come. The devotions we prepared were checked by Zina, to make sure we would not say things that these people that have suffered could not handle.

Everything was more than fine. We immediately connected with them in games and google

Preparation

Testimonies

by Jonathan Baarda | May 10, 2025 4:07 PM

After connecting and a good meal, there was time for worship and the practiced devotions. That went really well! We sang in Farsi.

Not Alone

by Jonathan Baarda | May 10, 2025 4:11 PM

When life is not easy, we all experienced a God that is with us in our trouble. We all testified how Jesus is with us in our trouble. Even the young Persian mother testified!
Not Alone

Connection

by Jonathan Baarda | May 10, 2025 4:18 PM

They heard our hearts and heard about Jesus. They had a good time and enjoyed our company. Some stayed really long.

Debriefing

by Jonathan Baarda | May 10, 2025 4:20 PM

At nightfall we found a good place for some Greek food and had a good time talking about what had happened that day. It was a great experience.

Breakfast

by Jonathan Baarda | May 11, 2025 2:59 PM

To save time we had breakfast at the appartement of the men. They served a special breakfast and all enjoyed it.

Breakfast

Church

by Jonathan Baarda | May 11, 2025 3:02 PM

After breakfast we walked to the Greek evangelical church. We met some students and on the way back we treated the mothers. Zina and Nazanin, because it was mothers day.

Barbecue

by Jonathan Baarda | May 11, 2025 3:06 PM

After church we changed clothes and went to the refugee center to pick up some refugees and took them to a place for a barbecue. This was close to a second refugee center, where we also picked up some people. We didn't know how great day it was going to be

Sports

by Jonathan Baarda | May 11, 2025 3:10 PM

Again it turned out that food, volleyball and games really connected us. We had a great time and all refugees told us that. Amazing day.

Worship and Devotion

by Jonathan Baarda | May 11, 2025 3:14 PM

And again we shared our lives and testimonies and devotions, because there were different people than yesterday. They all listened and applauded and they truly heard a lot about Jesus and our walk with Him.

Amazing Day

by Jonathan Baarda | May 11, 2025 3:20 PM

All in all we had a great day with a lot of fun, building bridges between cultures and people that are hurt by what they went through, and know little about Jesus. We shared food, games and the gospel. We hope they know they are loved and closer to the heart of Jesus.
Amazing Day

Boat Trip

by Jonathan Baarda | May 12, 2025 3:45 PM

Instead of the women's day today, we decided to change it to Tuesday because Rebecca will be leaving early in the morning. Today is our fun day. A boat trip to the little island in the lake.

Fredo Cappucino

by Jonathan Baarda | May 12, 2025 3:49 PM

On the island we did our devotion and drank Greek cold coffee or Greek mountain tea. And after that we enjoyed a relaxing walk over the island.

In the evening there was time for exploring the town and fellowship.

Women's Day

by Jonathan Baarda | May 13, 2025 4:33 PM

Today we started with worship and devotion after breakfast. After that we prepared for women's day. Some women from the refugee camp and children. The team was ready and dressed.

Impact

by Jonathan Baarda | May 14, 2025 3:57 AM

Talking in the aftermath we are confronted with some of the stories of the refugees. And we realised how the little things we did can be so big. It greatly touched us and we will carry this with us forever.

The kids had a great time. And the mothers relaxed and listened to powerful testimonies. Greatful to be serving our God

Helping Hands

by Jonathan Baarda | May 14, 2025 4:08 AM

This ministry is small and Zina can only do so much. We were happy to be helpful. The fields are white, pray for workers in the harvest, said Jesus. Wednesday we are going to say goodbye and take the last days to see Corinth and Athens before flying back home Saturday.
Helping Hands

Praying Pelican

by Jonathan Baarda | May 14, 2025 3:27 PM

After we packed the car we drove up the mountain on the opposite side of the lake to pray. For the city. And after coffee or tea and devotion we prayed for each person individually. Beautiful words were spoken as everyone asked for prayer to obey the call of God.

Late Dinner

by Jonathan Baarda | May 14, 2025 3:33 PM

It was a long drive back to Athens. Though it was close to 21:00 it seemed every Greek restaurant had a queue. Also the one we entered. We enjoyed good food. The hotel we are at has a roof terrace with a view on the Akropolis. We surely have to check that out. But tomorrow we will first go to Corinth, to see where the apostle Paul walked.
Late Dinner

Corinth Canal

by Jonathan Baarda | May 15, 2025 3:42 PM

Today was a day to walk where Paul was. On the way to Corinth we had a quick stop at the canal before we went to Corinth.

Akropolis of Corinth

by Jonathan Baarda | May 15, 2025 3:46 PM

Beautiful place to be. Huge fortress and even more impressing flowers all over. We enjoyed the hike to the top and the amazing view.

Ancient Corinth

by Jonathan Baarda | May 15, 2025 3:50 PM

We stood in the same place where the apostle Paul stood trial in Corinth and learned about judgement in those days and how it translates to today in the letters of Paul to the Corinthians. After this historical highlight it was time for shopping for the ladies. Tomorrow Athens.

Athens culture

by Jonathan Baarda | May 16, 2025 3:10 PM

Today our last day before flying back. We walked through Athens and enjoyed the view and architecture of some buildings. Others were completely covered with graffiti.

Coffee

by Jonathan Baarda | May 16, 2025 3:13 PM

We climbed Lykavittos hill, the highest point in Athens and on the way down enjoyed some drinks with a great view on the Akropolis

Akropolis

by Jonathan Baarda | May 16, 2025 3:18 PM

At the end of the day the Akropolis was on the list of things to do. Before that, time was spent seeing the change of the guard, exploring Athens and shopping. After Akropolis we climbed Mars Hill where we took a picture and remembered Paul and thought about what we had learned this period in Greece and again devoted our lives to Jesus. A great journey we had and with Jesus the journey has just begun.

Traveling

by Jonathan Baarda | May 17, 2025 4:15 AM

Looking back, we had a great time. Engaging in so many different things and culture. It was a really amazing time. The team left this morning to the airport with memories and new treasures. They were a real blessing and worked as a team together giving a great example and bringing hope and love and Jesus.
