It’s 10pm but the team made it safely to the island! First things first is some late night pizza before we head up to camp. 

Went to Waipuna Chapel down the street from our camp site. We worshipped and learned about the first 2 chapters of Ruth. Ruth’s story is a great reminder of God’s kindness and redemptive power!! After service we got a chance to meet new people and talk to the church community like a group of YWAM students.

Spent some time praying at the Lahaina Memorial. Here, we saw the names and faces of those who passed away. It really put into perspective of the ongoing healing and restoration happening in Maui and prayer is a HUGE part of that.

We got dinner down in Kahului at a local Sunday Market with different food trucks and booths. A lot of us tried food we’ve never tried before. There was live music and it was fun hangs! Here’s a few of the crew trying mochi donuts.

Our first ministry site is up in Kula. Malama Kula is a nonprofit that helps with fire prevention and services to residents in Kula, affected by the Kula fires. We worked with Alexis and Shannon, who explained the purpose behind their work. This lot is where a house used to be which has been cleared out and wood chipped. The team will work on clearing all the invasive weeds behind them so this place is ready for rebuilding. Scroll for the AFTER photo!

Yesterday after church, the team relaxed at the beach! While the boys caught some waves, the girls chilled in the sand! It was great just hanging out!!

This evening we mingled with those who came by St. Theresa's, to have dinner. Every night, 365 days a year, for the past 34 years, St. Theresa's serves hot meals for the unhoused, and those who are just hungry! Tonight, we got to be a part of that! What a blessing to be able to partner and serve with their ministry, Hale kau kau, and to serve and pray for those in need. 

Here’s the aftermath of everyone’s hard work serving with Malama Kula. They cleaned up the entire area behind them and spread wood chips!!! We are amazed at their hard work!

Driving home for the day and we couldn't resist pulling over for a photo op!! Totally mesmerized by the beauty of God's creation! 

Got back to camp and started a game of soccer until the sun went down! They kept playing til it was time for our team meeting. Gotta add playing in the dark to our talents!

Hearing from Auntie Nettie and her heart and passion behind starting Lahaina Resource and Recovery Center!

We helped sort and organize all of the clothing at LRRC. All of these bags had to be taken out of the dome, repacked and labeled, while some of the guys built shelves for them. All of this in the hot Hawai‘i sun!

Today we folded laundry in Lahaina, under the scorching sun!! We also got a chance to listen to stories and share our own!! It was hot, but overall it was a great day!!!

Back with Auntie Nettie for our last day of ministry. Got a run down of our tasks we’re going to tackle and started with prayer! Ready for what we’ve got to do today!

We helped Auntie Nettie reorganize all of her containers. We took a bunch of mattresses out and counted them. And then started going through toys and clothes for LRRC’s back to school event happening in August!

After a long hot day of serving, we took a dip in the ocean. The waves were wild but a few us caught some waves boogie boarding and such!
