We've Made it!!!

by Emma Wiering | June 29, 2024 11:18 PM

After two days of travel we have made it to our partner church Mount Olive Baptist Church, in Lake Charles, Louisiana. After we settled in, we met with our PPM staff and got an overview of the week. We are so excited to see what tomorrow and the rest of the week in this community brings!

We've Made it!!!

We are the Church

by Emma Wiering | June 30, 2024 2:07 PM

Today our host church, Mount Olive, put on a special community event. Instead of a traditional service, the Mount Olive congregation, our praying pelican team, and New Hope church from Texas came together to serve the community. We went to the local high school, LaGrange senior high, and had the privilege of helping them with projects.

Paint the Way!

by Emma Wiering | June 30, 2024 2:09 PM

Our project for our team today was painting the entire science building hallway. This hallway was in need of a coat of new paint. We had such a great time being able to come together with a total of three churches to show this community some love! With all of the groups today, we were able to accomplish so many projects for the youth of the area.

Mission Success!

by Emma Wiering | June 30, 2024 10:29 PM

After a hard day of work we were able to almost completely finish the science hallway with fresh paint! We all worked so hard today, especially the youth. They did a fantastic job all around! It was an awesome day to join together with two other churches and serve this community! But the real question is… who gets the award for being covered in the most paint?

Breathe of Life Church

by Emma Wiering | July 1, 2024 3:18 PM

This morning we met with Pastor Robinson at our partner Breathe of Life church. He told us about the church and how they have suffered hurricane damage, flooding, and a car came through the building. In February, Pastor Robinson suffered a stroke and has lost mobility in a leg, arm, and some speech. He was so so very grateful for our team to be here and help his church as he is currently unable. We split up in a few groups to help address these needs.

That’s a Car!

by Emma Wiering | July 1, 2024 3:20 PM

After a car crashed into the church, this room needed some attention. We helped clean up debris, construction mud, and patched some broken windows. All while avoiding the wasps…

More Painting!

by Emma Wiering | July 1, 2024 3:24 PM

After heavy rains, the sanctuary has been subject to flooding. This has resulted in the floorboards growing mold. We applied a mold killing primer then painted white afterwards! We will apply one last coat tomorrow.

Clean up Duty!

by Emma Wiering | July 1, 2024 3:28 PM

Our crew headed outside to clear this concrete trench. It has been full of debris, mud, and plants for years. This backup causes the trench to flood, which consequently floods the inside of the church… causing the baseboards to mold. We worked on trimming the overgrown vines, digging out the years of leaves, mud, and cutting through those roots. We will continue tomorrow!

Old Friends!

by Emma Wiering | July 1, 2024 3:35 PM

Look who came to visit at our worksite today! Our old church friends, Vanessa and John stopped in with some cookies! A great way to end the work day. We are so grateful for this opportunity to help Pastor Robinson and his church!

Just Keep on Digging!

by Emma Wiering | July 3, 2024 8:07 AM

We got as far as we could on digging the trench for the rain water. Two days of digging, removing so many roots, and cutting thorny vines. We made great progress and this should put a big stop to the flooding that’s happening inside the church!

Itchy Work!

by Emma Wiering | July 3, 2024 8:10 AM

We worked on removing a very old drop ceiling. After removing the tiles, we took out all of the insulation that was in the ceiling. Then we bagged it up and brought it to the dumpsters. We were ready for showers after this job!

Digging Deep

Another look at the incredible work our team did out in the drainage way. The pastor was so thankful as this will help avoid many previous issues!

Can’t Stay Away from the Paint

by Emma Wiering | July 3, 2024 8:28 AM

After we finished a second coat of paint inside on the base boards we headed outdoors. This is the section of wall where a car ran into the church. So in the meantime we painted this section too until a permanent fix is made.

Blessed

by Emma Wiering | July 3, 2024 8:32 AM

At the end of our time at Breath of Life church, we got together with Pastor Robinson. Once again, he shared how truly grateful and appreciative he is of all the work we were able to do on the church. But we are just so happy that we were able take this off his plate and serve him! At the end of the day he shared part of his testimony with us and it was so impactful to hear him speak about what the Lord has done in his life.

4th of July cleanup!

by Emma Wiering | July 3, 2024 3:31 PM

This morning we headed to the beach on Lake Charles. We assisted with the city’s trash cleanup. It made us realize how poorly we sometimes treat the beautiful Earth God created for us. We are hopeful that as many gather for 4th of July tomorrow they are able to enjoy the clean beach.

Greetings!

by Emma Wiering | July 3, 2024 10:38 PM

Tonight we had the honor of welcoming in community members to a local theater in Lake Charles. The US Air Force band of the west played a special concert tonight in honor of veterans and Independence Day.

Greetings!

Wakey wakey!

This morning, us leaders cooked breakfast as the youth slept in after a hard weeks work! We had a great breakfast and are off for our fun recreation day before we leave Lake Charles tomorrow.

For our fun rec day we headed to altitude trampoline park! We enjoyed lots of jumping, hide and seek, flips, dodge ball, and lots more. Our favorite part was splitting up into teams for dodge ball!! Game on!
