Aloha from Maui!

by Elizabeth Braaten | July 22, 2024 12:11 PM

The team arrived safely Saturday afternoon and enjoyed various food trucks for dinner before settling in for the night at camp. Sunday morning we joined Waipuna Chapel for church. We had so much fun meeting and worshiping with them. What a great way to start our week here on Maui.

Prayers for Lihaina

by Elizabeth Braaten | July 22, 2024 12:16 PM

After church we went over to the Lihaina Civic Center and the Lihaina Bypass Memorial. While there we prayed for the town, the family and friends impacted, and the legal system to allow progress to move forward in the rebuild.

Playing with the Pelicans

by Elizabeth Braaten | July 22, 2024 4:50 PM

We ended our Sunday with dinner at the beach with the community. We grilled out some hot dogs and brats and invited people to join us for a meal. What a fun opportunity to connect with people and share food.

Malama Kula Replanting

by Rose Brito | July 23, 2024 4:13 PM

On Monday, not only did we get a chance to plant some pretty amazing native trees and plants, but the organization leader, Nico, was able to fill us in on the great work they are doing for the community of Kula! We weren’t just pulling weeds, we were preventing future fires and we weren’t just planting we were helping to restore Kula with their native plants that also add so much to the environment and promote more rain to an area that is in dire need!! We truly left some footprints and imprints here in this community!!

Definitely working hard! I love how our team can have a good time even when we’re hot and uncomfortable! This was hard work today, but our team prevailed!

“No Na Kanaka”

by Elizabeth Braaten | July 23, 2024 4:42 PM

No Na Kanaka; For The People. This is what the Lihaina Resource and Recovery Center represents and does. While there today we were able to build fencing around the containers, organize storage containers, and continue to work on the new office.

The rest of the team went to serve at Waipuna Chapel, that shares a space with a local ranch. One of their ministries is through the rodeos held at the ranch. While here we cleaned up chairs, tables, organized gathering spaces, picked up the grounds and helped remodel some of their tech. Here you can see our team listening to Pastor Kiapo share about the impact of the fires on him and the community, and how God has used their ministries.

Beach Worship

by Elizabeth Braaten | July 26, 2024 1:25 AM

After a full recreation day of hiking and swimming, we ended the night with worship at the beach together. While worshiping, people joined in with us to praise our Heavenly Father. What a great way to end our last day in Maui.
