Hello Grand Isle

by Morgan Shepherd | April 3, 2024 8:32 AM

We arrived safely last night! We had a quick orientation and introduction before we got to take a quick trip to the beach to explore. We are so excited to serve the community and church of Grand Isle this week!

Sanding with the Grain

by Morgan Shepherd | April 3, 2024 11:05 AM

We got to work right away this morning. We split up into small teams to work on different projects around the church. A group of us sanded down some picnic tables a previous group built.

Watch out Below!

by Morgan Shepherd | April 3, 2024 11:12 AM

A group of us went to a home in the community to help gut and demo it. We met Mr James, the brother of the homeowner, saved a cat from the dumpster, and worked on clearing out all the garbage and debris from the home.

Making the Attic More Functional

by Morgan Shepherd | April 3, 2024 11:45 AM

Our final morning crew worked upstairs in the church. We took out some wood that had been warped and worked on replacing it. We also better secured the insulation.

“If We Build it, They Will Come”

by Morgan Shepherd | April 3, 2024 4:07 PM

After lunch, we started staining and painting the picnic benches. Mamma Tiff told us about her vision for the youth at the church and creating more spaces for them, including outside. It is so inspiring to hear her stories and how God is working through her obedience.

Nailed it!

After lunch the attic crew started on nailing in the wood ceiling!

Seagulls & Sunsets

by Morgan Shepherd | April 4, 2024 11:29 AM

We ended our evening with dinner and debrief on the beach. We and the seagulls enjoyed some fried chicken. The sunset was beautiful, and we even made two friends that joined us for some worship.

“Get in the Backseat, Baby”

by Morgan Shepherd | April 4, 2024 3:18 PM

This morning, a group of us went to Mr Thomas’ in order to help him prepare his land for a new build. Before we began, he sang us a song he wrote about Jesus and how He is with us always; it was such a blessing. Then we helped move his and his wife’s belongings, like many potted plants, from the foundation.

Demolition Time

by Morgan Shepherd | April 4, 2024 3:26 PM

Another group went to Mr Rodney’s house. He is the only mechanic on the island, and the hurricane took not only his home but his business. We are helping demo his old house!

Walls are Coming Down

by Morgan Shepherd | April 4, 2024 3:51 PM

After lunch, we combined groups and went back to Mr Rodney’s for more demo. We used a vehicle to help pull the walls off and then started breaking down the pieces.

Shrimpers for a Day

by Morgan Shepherd | April 5, 2024 1:50 PM

Friday morning, we got the amazing opportunity to go shrimping! Some shrimpers from the community allowed us to take a trip out with them to learn about this dying-out trade and be able to experience it for ourselves!

Shrimp Sorters

by Morgan Shepherd | April 5, 2024 1:53 PM

We saw many dolphins, got to throw fish to the birds, and helped sort the shrimp out of all the various fish, squid, crabs, and other sea life. We had so much fun, learned so much, and can’t wait to eat our catch! We are so grateful for this opportunity and have a new appreciation for shrimp, as this was no quick task, even with many hands.
