Ready! Set! Go!!!
by David Ashley | March 2, 2024 3:59 PM
Our team is here and they are super excited for the week ahead. For those who were here last year it’s an excitement to see friends they miss and for those that are new it’s a new experience for their growth in God and building new relations with the people of Jamaica.
He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Mark 16 15
Great are You Lord
by David Ashley | March 3, 2024 8:45 AM
What a beautiful day to be able to wake up to the beautiful sunshine in Jamaica. We had a wonderful breakfast and now we are ready to get our praise on. Keep us in your prayers as we are the hands and feet of our lord Jesus Christ and as we open our hearts to His leading.
I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1

Church was awesome. It was such a great experience for the team. Isabella got the chance to share her testimony. She was so brave and she pushed through eloquently.

Dinner was so so good. The team really enjoyed it and they are now using their new found energy playing before the journey back to the camp site.
School Devos
by David Ashley | March 4, 2024 8:38 AM
We got up to a great breakfast this morning. We had Brooklyn share her devos after breakfast and she spoke about how life is more than chasing wealth. If you're not chasing after God first, for when life and all that we chase after comes to an end and you don’t have a relationship then you will realize that you accomplished nothing.
We then went to school to have devotion with the kids. Allyssa, Faith and Trinity went up to do that and they were really good with the kids and brought the work to the kids. The team is moving far from their comfort zone and I’m so proud of how they are growing day by day.

Prepping
by David Ashley | March 4, 2024 1:53 PM
Some of the other guys are prepping the court to be filled with mortar. We have a hard set of workers here this week.
*We were originally going to let students call home if they wanted to but so far the connection at night has been either weak or no connection. But everyone is safe and doing great!——Mr.Slate
Hard at Work or Hardly Working
by David Ashley | March 4, 2024 4:48 PM
We have some future construction contractors here on our hands. They did so well mixing the concrete and forming the bucket lines. We are excited for what the rest of the days have in store and I’m so happy to see them getting further away from their comfort zones.
Peace Day
by Tony Slate | March 5, 2024 9:40 AM
Today has been a great day. We are celebrating the national peace day in Jamaica. We actually got to do this last year with them. For peace day today the school activity was to plant a new almond tree. The tree represents growth and peace that will flourish with fresh fruits and provide shade and comfort and peace for people around it. I wish we celebrated peace day every day. It’s beautiful here and the kids are doing amazing. God is working in all of their hearts and they are impacting each other and the locals.
we will head to lunch soon and then we will spend the afternoon at Widows Mite. This is an orphanage for physically and mentally disabled children, and everyone has been prepared and prayed up for this. Then tonight we will have our debriefing and worship together. It’s been a great day. Happy peace day, everyone.!

THE ADVENTURES OF THE OREO PIZZA- Day Four ( ask later…IYKYK)
by Aly Gregorek | March 5, 2024 4:55 PM
We started off the day with a delicious and nutritious breakfast which everyone devoured quickly. Soon after, Connor led a devotion. The first part of the day we worked at St. Christopher’s School for the Deaf. The group had the opportunity to sit in the classrooms and help the teachers and kids. (The first half I had the delight of helping the Pre-K kids draw things for Peace Day). At break time we enjoyed playing with the kids with frisbees, soccer balls and footballs. After break the kids were accompanied to class by us. ( I sat in on 5th grade and received many sweet notes from the kids when we left.) After serving at the deaf school we stopped by the church and partnered up to pray for Widows Mite (the orphanage for kids with special needs) and to ask that God could work through us to bring joy to the people we would meet there. We ate lunch and quickly got on the road to Widows Mite. On the way there we were blessed to receive orange juice and water from a good samaritan which displayed the kindness of the Jamaican people. When we arrived at Widows Mite we were greeted by the sweet kids living there. We went inside and met the rest of the kids. After introductions and re-introductions were made we danced, sang, and even read Bible stories to them. It was eye opening to see what some people go through and it is not fair that they have to go through such a difficult life. I can say that even when we were told to prepare ourselves for that experience, there was no way we would have known what to expect. You never know exactly what to prepare for until you experience it. It was so heartwarming to see the kids enjoying our company and smiling. (My favorite part was singing “My Lighthouse” and “Oceans” to some of the kids and seeing them nod their heads along with the music). It was so hard to leave the kids after the fun we had with them. On the way back we sang together on the bus which was really fun and will be a memory that will last forever.
P.S. To Mr. and Mrs. Evans,
Keep up the good work, those comments are hilarious. I’m counting on y’all to make the next ones even better!
P.P.S Someone tell the Gregoreks to get on their game! They need to comment on these! ?
Thank y’all!
-Aly
My Week
by Wesley Evans | March 6, 2024 6:33 AM
This is my second time in Jamaica for eagle week and it has been just as, if not more powerful, than last time. This mission trip really puts emphasis on the mission and less on the trip and I wouldn’t have it any other way. We’ve been able to reconnect with the deaf students in Jamaica and truly have an impact on them. Recently, with the special needs establishment we visited, we really were able to help and bring joy to those who needed it. Even among ourselves, Christ has really been present. The growth I’ve seen throughout this trip has been truly amazing. I love this trip and I hope to do it for as long as I can. Joy has really been a theme this week and I am so glad to have been apart of it.
See You Later Wesley
by David Ashley | March 6, 2024 8:41 AM
The team is up and running and they are so ready for the day's activity. It’s the final day for our ministry at the deaf school. Wesley is leaving today. The team is so sad that it’s his final day but before he left, he set a goal for the team and that is to make every second count and that it is the final day to minister to the kids and not to take it for granted. I know he would give anything to be at the school right now because he is that kind of person. We are happy for the time that he spent here with us and we are also proud of the journey that is ahead for him with the debate coming up. We prayed him out and that he gets on the plane and that he doesn’t get lost in the airport because we know he’s Wes. I ask all of you to keep him in your prayers as he flies out and we pray that he doesn’t have any trouble on the plane either. Wes, we love you and we pray that God continues to bless you and bless you in this competition. Remember Wes, it’s not goodbye, it’s see you later.
Praying
by Isabella Montoya | March 6, 2024 11:08 AM
I’m Isabella and this week I’m in Jamaica because I wanted to serve the community and be out of my comfort zone like learning ASL when I had no experience with it at the Widows Mite where we helped special orphans. The Lord also called me to share my testimony at the church and that was probably one of the best experiences I have ever had. Throughout this trip my relationship with God has grown I have spent more time praying and worshiping. In this photo me Brooklyn and Trinity are seen praying. We were praying after Widows Mite and worshiping the Lord. To end my journey I would like to say that God has been working in me in many ways and I hope when I get home I can do more to help the community with God's help.
Teaching Pastor ASL
by Faith Gardoni | March 6, 2024 3:43 PM
In the picture Tumi and I were teaching the pastor ASL. He definitely enjoyed us.
Going to Jamaica taught me so much not only about being blessed for what I have, but that the small things you do make the biggest impact. For example, going to Widows Mite made me realize that even though you have struggles in life you can still be happy and live life to the fullest.
This trip also gave me more confidence in my ASL signs. I went to a Deaf school for the first time. At first I was nervous but as I stayed there, I learned so much.
I learned how they learn, how respectful and loving they are toward each other and even though it’s hard for them they will always have each other.
The most important thing I learned from this trip is how important Jesus is and how He truly works in mysterious ways. I realized I made my relationship with Jesus kinda private and I need to open up more.
Love of the Lord
by Tumi Kalejaiye | March 6, 2024 3:58 PM
This picture is of Aly and myself!
In this photo, we were sharing the love of Jesus Christ and our love for each other after Widow’s Mite.
For those who don’t know, Widow’s Mite is an orphanage for those who are severely disabled in one way or another— and we all had to face it one way or another.
Now, as the after effect of this, we all learned to love and spread joy in such different ways. For some, learning to be yourself and embrace yourself to spread joy brings more of an impact than one can think— another being that God can use you as a vessel to spread joy.
I remember praying for everyone before going in and going to God to give everyone confidence to go in, and do what is asked of us; for God to give everyone the insight to know that everyone in Widow’s Mite was made perfectly the way they are, and to get something out of it.
While we were there, we spread so much joy and so much love, that we left with that love lingering in our hearts.
The conversation I had with my friends was meaningful: the children at Widow’s Mite were happy regardless of their living situation, they were happy to live life the way they can.
In our America we live life as quickly as possible— by the time we hit 13 we’re pretty much an adult. But not for Jamaica, and definitely not for the kids at Widow’s Mite.
So… Let’s live life to the fullest!! Not quickly, but fully! Let’s bask in the Love of the Lord forever.
;)
My Story
by Trinity Simpson | March 6, 2024 6:44 PM
Hi! My name is Trinity Simpson and I am so grateful and blessed to be on this trip. My faith has grown tremendously, and words cannot describe the amount of joy and love I have towards every single person in this group. Over the course of just a few days, I have laughed, cried, and learned the joy in putting others before myself. Whether it’s working with children at the deaf school and Widow’s Mite, or working to pave the basketball court for the kids at the deaf school, the work we have done is not only rewarding, but it’s so uplifting to see everyone work together toward a common goal. On this trip, I’ve seen people find Christ. I’ve seen people’s faith (as well as my own) grow in ways that I didn’t even know was possible, and I’ve seen the amount of love everyone has for each other, and most importantly, God. I am forever grateful to be able to go on this amazing trip, and although the trip is almost over, I pray that everyone will pour love and compassion to others every single day of their lives, just as if they were on this mission. Thank you all for your love and support. None of this would be possible without the unending support from everyone’s friends and family. I am forever grateful for this trip and I pray I that I’ll take the lessons we learned and they will stay with us forever.
PS- Mom, Dad, Jashaun, Josiah, Jayden, and Abbie, I miss you and love you more than words can say.
PS (again)- Good luck at state Wes! I pray God will be with you, and I know you’ll be exceptional!

Here’s Hannah
by David Ashley | March 7, 2024 10:28 AM
The team is up and ready. They are currently shopping to get some souvenirs and after that they will be getting some lunch and heading to Dolphin Cove where they will spend the rest of the day on the beach chilling with the dolphins and just enjoying their rest day.
PS Hannah is fine. She’s just been super busy working not caring about being in the camera too much so I had to catch her for a pic.
Braiding
by David Ashley | March 7, 2024 1:11 PM
The guys are at the beach and they are having fun. Some went snorkeling, some went to walk on the beach and some braided their hair. I won’t say who because you will see for yourself later on but everyone is doing good so keep us in your prayers.
PS Sorry Wes-we got some juicy patties for lunch today. With every bite we missed you and we were sorry that you weren’t here to enjoy this this year but we know that you’re busy studying so it won’t be a problem for you this year. Until next year my brother. We will let the newbies try out and you can ask him about it.
Rec Day
by Tony slate | March 7, 2024 11:08 PM
Today was our rec day or day off. And I was just telling the group last night that a lot of times the last day can be one of the most amazing days spiritually.
We started off this morning with breakfast and a devotional led by Aly. Then we headed to the souvenir shops and the craft market. This is where the students got to put their bargaining and bartering skills into practice. I think they did a great job and they got some good deals and also were fair and respectful.
We headed to the beach where we spent the rest of the day on Jamaica’s beautiful beach, snorkeling, tubing, and spending a couple of hours, jumping on the floating bouncy castle type things
The coolest part of today was a baptism that occurred on the beach. There was a group of other Christians who were on their day off and happened to be on the same beach. These were college students and one got baptized. David and I were there to watch it, and we prayed with the group, and we sang over the group. David and I wanted the whole team there, but they came a little bit later so David and I were the “choir “. Then we noticed another student from that college got baptized. And then another. And then another. A total of eight college students were baptized. It was a beautiful site, and it was also amazing to see their faces when they realized that the voices that were singing were coming from, two people on the beach that they had never met! Then Gabby Isabella and Hannah joined our little choir!
After more beach time, we headed to the almond tree restaurant for a very nice final dinner.
These kids have been amazing. They have worked every single day and never complained. They have put in a lot of manual labor as well as relational work building relationships and loving on so many.
My goal every year for Eagle Week is to glorify Christ by serving His people. This is a mission trip that I can gladly get behind each year. Pray with me that these kids will maintain their servant hearts and make FBCA a place like no other for training up disciples!
God, thank you for taking care of us and taking care of our families back home. Amen!
All Packed Up

See you later
by David Ashley | March 8, 2024 1:50 PM
Wow, what a wonderful time it has been to see how much these kids have grown through one week shows me the potential of what we can do if we just set our minds to reach the people of God, I know much can be done. To the everyone that took the time out to comment, encourage and just let them know that you are praying for them. To the friends that took their time out of their day just to leave a comment and say I love you I miss you I treasure you And counting down the nights for them to be home shows me how much they are loved. I appreciate all the comments that were made towards the team. These kids have run the race and they are finished strong. Everybody stepped out of their comfort zone. I pray that as they leave home, it would’ve been where they were most comfortable and stepping out into the unknown is never easy. I want them to know that by stepping out into the unknown, that is how you will see God work in and through you I love all of you, I treasure all of you I pray that you will continue to encourage each other and build each other up just as you did this week do not jump into the lifestyle of what you were coming from before mission trip but set your Goal to continue in seeking God and trusting God, and in stepping out and stepping into presence of God, so I love you all and thank you for choosing Jamaica

If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praise through Jesus Christ.

I’m baaaaccckkkk. Aren’t you all excited what I have to say for the grand finale? I know I am. David, hi again. Don’t worry, this one isn’t for you. I just wanted to ask you to call Mr. Slate “Baldamort.” After seeing his glistening head in the pictures, I was reminded of just how much he likes to be called that. Don’t let him tell you lies about some bear. Everyone knows Jamaica has no bears, so it’s nothing to worry about. Adie, I know you probably forgot you were whiter than snow again. So make sure you keep that burn cream close at all times. And just to make sure Adie doesn’t forget to put on the cream, I ask that everyone else, give her a nice pat on the neck, or wherever else she looks like a tomato. Watch out for the stairs. Grayson, I’m not there to play Tennis with you, so I think you should play it with Zach. I know how much Hughroy and David love watching that game. Jordan, if Jack and Jayden do something weird before bed again I give you full permission to smack them with the broom. Walter, you are perfect I have nothing bad to say… Siiikkkkeeeeee. I noticed that you once again chose to wear pants. For this one I’m going to quote Thomas. “I’m not saying you’re not intelligent, you’re just uneducated.” You do know that it’s like a bajillion degrees out there right? All jokes aside, I love each and every one of y’all. I hope your last day was a great one. God has done some amazing things for each and every one of us. This trip is truly one of the most impactful. I can’t wait to see y’all back in America to try to make that Oreo Pizza and hear all of the stories. I’m praying for you safe travels, and more awareness in the airport for a couple. Lots of love, and a whole bunch of ya mon’s. ♥️ P.S. David, don’t read this next part out loud. Make sure to wake the guys up with something like “we’ve missed our flight.” I know how much we loved hearing we missed breakfast a few days ago. Ok, you can go back to reading aloud now. For the rest of you, you’ll have to find out tomorrow what I said. It’s a surprise.

Dear Adie Well, the trip is ending soon. By now all the activities are winding up, packing has probably started for the trip home…. the end is insight…home in your own bed, familiar surroundings. But you will always have the memories of your first mission trip. You now know what it is like to give of yourself without any reward except doing what Jesus has asked of us as Christians. I hopr you are aware of what you have accomplished this week. You are a caring, loving person and you now know what that really feels like.. There is no other feeling like it. God will bless you for what you have done. I look forward to seeing you. Love you so much Pipi

Lord I am so inspired by what you’re doing for God in the hearts of these FB students and the people they've met or become reacquainted with in Jamaica!! I pray each of you to remember what God’s done in your heart on this journey. Those of you who anre on this trip for a second time may remember it’s a little uncomfortable upon “re-entry” back to your life here. It’s my prayer you all take time and listen to what you’re meant to DO with that feeling. What heart-work has our awesome God assigned you as “homework”? And where is He calling you? How is He shaping us all to be forever changed by your experiences? ❤️ Thank you all for sharing your journey with us and shining God’s LIGHT! Aly Brooke, this might be your last Eagle Week but it’s a life mission to carry with you as you graduate and step out into the world! We love you. Thank you to Praying Pelicans, Mr. Slate and Coach Allmon for your planning and guidance. Enjoy what God is doing today! 💚

Grayson, Hazel and Rosie think you’ve been gone long enough! They refuse to leave your bedroom… they’re ready for you to return home and pet them! Of course I miss you too… especially you pounding the Mexican hat dance and LaBamba on the piano when we’re all trying to get ready for bed and you moonwalking through the kitchen at dinner time to name a couple ;) Get your praise on during your last full day in Jamaica. Raise those hands high and give God the glory for all that he’s done! Hug a dolphin for me! Love you! Psalm 150:1-2,6 Praise the Lord.Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens. Praise him for his acts of power; praise him for his surpassing greatness….. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.

Well hello, isn’t this fun, I’m on the other side of the comments now, so get ready ?. This one is long so sorry David, for everyone else sit back relax and enjoy the show. First off, have a song request for Ally. Could you sing Oreo Pizza for David, I know how much he loves it and I just want him to hear it again. That would warm my heart ??. Hannah, no more ticks please, I don’t need to see that terrifying thing in a plastic bag again. That goes for you too Jayden. Tumi, I love the new fashion statement with the flower on your eye that was certainly something. Jack I know you’re sitting over there being as quiet as you can. I’m excited to hear what weird thing you do before bed this time, I’m sure Spencer will love it. Make sure to include Jayden in all your shenanigans. And to everyone in the boys side, keep Jayden away from the mirror. Lord knows he loves that thing too much. Spencer I hope your shower tonight is less than three hours long. Remember I’m there in spirit yelling at you to hurry up. In all seriousness I love all of you guys, and I’m so sad I can’t be there. God has done some amazing things in this group, and he’s not done. You all have grown so much, and shared so much love in Jamaica. I can’t wait to hear all about what all I missed. I love messing around with all of you but my favorite part about our group is when we glorify God together. Keep your minds in service, and keep on singing in the bus. I’ll be singing along with you all in America. Love you all so much!!! Have fun at the beach!!

Loved catching up with your evening and day through the trip journals of Isa, Faith, Wes & Tumi . Faith you are right, a relationship with Jesus is often private quiet time with Jesus, but we can certainly speak LOUDLY and PROUDLY about what a wonderful friend savior He is!! And Isa , it’s inspiring to hear how God is working in your heart and how you want to serve more at home! Tumi, you brought me to tears me with that last paragraph about growing up too fast and living fast in America. You’re exactly right— we are called to live life fully and bask in the Love of the Lord forever! May He call each of you into that fullness without ceasing!!! Aly I love seeing connected to Christ and your friends, it is beautiful. I know it will be hard to say so long this week, and in a few months. Isn’t it wonderful to know heaven is an eternal home, for everyone you’ve met and who believe. Thank you Lord for the gift of time and intention!!!

Grayson you seem to be quite camera shy. I'm assuming you either shaved your head or got a sweet face tat. Your pups got shaved while you were gone too. Whatever it takes to share the Gospel. Amen amen amen! In my calendar it says only 2 days till Grayson comes home but I know when you leave the friends you are making on the island will be marking only 359 days till Grayson comes back. Nice job everyone…thank you for assigning Wes to do sand work. I see he wasn’t given a shovel, that was smart he can’t hurt himself that way. ? Grayson, God has good things planned for you this week and he’s got work for you to do too. You are strong and up to the task. Hebrews 12:1-2 Jesus, Founder and Perfecter of Our Faith Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
