Cabin #1 Makeover

by Janet Buchanan | February 10, 2023 11:15 AM

Today we are working at the ministry center for the OIUMC (Oklahoma Indian United Methodist Church). We are working on cabin #1 to give it a little makeover for the Annual Conference this summer. We are prepping for painting later this afternoon and cleaning and packing up some Frankoma pottery dishes that were given to them when the factory closed. This pottery was created by John Frank in 1933.  It was made from a special clay found in Ado,Oklahoma.

Lunch with Pastor July

by Janet Buchanan | February 10, 2023 9:01 PM

Pastor July shared with us some of the Native American concerns in his church community. He was very interesting and we enjoyed his fellowship. Later that evening he came back and brought his  son ,he so proudly talked about, for us to meet. He sang a song in his native tongue and prayed for us and our time here in Oklahoma.

Later that afternoon Pastor Paul made a visit to thank us for the work we were doing. He was impressed that our group was made up of all girls!  He prayed a beautiful prayer over us and we prayed for him as well.

Makeover #2

by Janet Buchanan | February 11, 2023 9:19 PM

We have three house projects that we are working on this week. There are 8 houses or cabins that are part of the Ministry campus for the OIUMC. It is their turn to host the annual meeting for all the churches this year. Our ministry project is to help get the cabins ready.

Tulsa United Methodist Indian Church

by Janet Buchanan | February 12, 2023 9:07 PM

We enjoyed worshiping at Pastor Larry’s church. They sang several songs in different native languages as well as a few songs from the hymnal. It was a very unique experience. Pastor Larry spoke on Deuteronomy 30. Love the Lord and obey Him continually.

She Brews Coffee Shop

by Janet Buchanan | February 15, 2023 3:48 PM

Ronda Bear founder of She Brews wanted to improve the quality of life by advocating for women struggling with reentering back into society successfully; to bring effective solutions to the cycle of recidivism by providing programs focused on social and economic change and community development. She Brews Coffee helps us do this.

The team enjoyed hanging out there, drinking delicious coffee, and they were impressed with the prayer closet she had in one corner of the shop.
