We Made It!

by Ronda Baldwin | July 16, 2022 10:03 PM

After one of the easiest long drives ever, we made it to Madisonville, KY. We got moved in, had our info meeting, and then headed to a local Mexican restaurant for dinner. We had showers and a bit of play time and then were all ready for bed. We're looking forward to meeting the First United Methodist Church family in the morning.

Firm Foundation

by Jadon Baldwin | July 17, 2022 10:41 PM

After this morning’s worship service with our host congregation, Madisonville FUMC, we had the opportunity to witness first-hand some of the hardship that struck the area of Dawson Springs (which is where we’ll be serving this week).

It was an incredible and sobering moment to be able to stand in what was once a home, and pray for the incredible strength of this community as well as the work God has given us to do here alongside them.

He’s not done, they’re not done, and we’ve only just begun!!

Every Tongue!

by Jadon Baldwin | July 17, 2022 10:44 PM

This evening, after coming back from Dawson Springs, we had the amazing opportunity to worship alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ at their Hispanic service! It was a beautiful example of what unity in the Church looks like, and we are so grateful that they extended an invitation to us!

When Youth Lead

by Ronda Baldwin | July 17, 2022 10:51 PM

Martin lead our devotion time to close out the night. He did a great job reminding us that as we go out to serve, the Lord is with us. We are ready to see what He does the rest of this week!

“A Blessing to Bless”

by Jadon Baldwin | July 18, 2022 12:53 PM

Starting today, some of our crew is serving with Operation Blessing to help them build a home in the Dawson Springs community for a family who lost theirs in the December 10th tornado.

From painting to sweeping to putting in insulation, it’s gonna be a busy but fun day of service with the people here!

Lacy Leads

by Ronda Baldwin | July 18, 2022 10:21 PM

Lacy took the lead this morning and shared a devotion with the group to start our day. She did an amazing job focusing our attention on Jesus and why we are here.

Hearing the Stories

by Ronda Baldwin | July 18, 2022 10:25 PM

Spending time with the homeowners we are serving and hearing their stories is the most important thing we can do this week. They need people who have fresh ears, for whom it isn't old hat, to listen to them and help them process the pain that continues to resurface. Ashley lost her 18-year-old son in a car accident ten days before losing her home in the tornado. It is an absolute privilege to be a small part of helping her rebuild her life.

Jessie's Barndominium

by Ronda Baldwin | July 18, 2022 10:27 PM

Several of us are building a relationship with Jessie and her son while helping them install horse stalls in the barn part of their building as well as painting the entryway, laundry, and bathroom in the living quarters. The twelve-foot ceilings are a challenge, but nothing we aren't willing to tackle.

The Deck Masters

by Ronda Baldwin | July 18, 2022 10:30 PM

It took a little while to get a workable plan together for Ed and Nancy's porch, but once we did, many hands made light with of the project. We are hopeful we can finish it tomorrow.

Clearing Trees

by Ronda Baldwin | July 18, 2022 10:32 PM

One if the things that meant the most to Ed was the camping and fishing area around his pond that he had to share with friends and family. The storm knocked down dozens of trees and blocked the path even just to get to the pond. It's a huge job that is way bigger than us or the time we have available, but we're going to do the best we can to make a dent in it for him.

Worship Practice!

by Jadon Baldwin | July 18, 2022 10:34 PM

To get ready for some student-led worship, a handful of us got to practicing as soon as we could tonight! We can’t wait to see God move in these special moments of corporate worship.

"Welcome to My Porch!"

by Nathan Spencer | July 19, 2022 5:06 PM

Today in Dawson Springs we made huge progress on a porch for Ed and Brandy. Everyone is getting to learn how to frame and put on deck boards. It was a HOT one but we all pushed through. Ed and Brandy even made some amazing brisket and pulled pork for us to eat at lunch!

9 and 3 Quarters… Or Something Like That

by Jadon Baldwin | July 19, 2022 10:13 PM

Continuing where we left off yesterday, our group serving with Operation Blessing got to put up dry wall in the garage (which was a LOT of math and a lot of ladders!) and got to sand down walls inside the house (which involved a lot less math, but still had plenty of the latter).

Clearing the Way

by Ronda Baldwin | July 19, 2022 10:36 PM

Our tree cutting group was able to move two of the big trees blocking Ed's path to his pond. Hopefully this will help get the bulldozers he needs back there to clean up the rest of the property.

Treasure in the Rubble

by Ronda Baldwin | July 19, 2022 10:40 PM

We found many touching, yucky, and even ironic items in the lots we were helping to clear. It is sad how many haven't been cleaned up yet since the tornado hit 8 months ago. The need will be great for a very long time.
