Food Distribution in Barrio Obrero, Puerto Rico

by Jose David Figueroa | November 1, 2021 12:13 PM

On Saturday I went to help one of our partners named Nilka Marrero. Her church is located in Barrio Obrero in the town of San Juan.  It has the largest population of poor people and immigrants from the DR and Haiti. Today the church was doing food distribution. There were 600 boxes of food in the truck that went out to the people of the community and other churches.

Designed by Joy!

by Deanna Ver Schneider | November 1, 2021 1:12 PM

Katie, Deanna, Leah and another friend, Jonese, served today at a ministry in Raleigh, NC called Designed by Joy. It’s a beautiful ministry that serves vulnerable women by providing support, well-paying jobs, and resources. We got to help make jewelry that they will sell to help support their ministry! We had a blast and are excited to see where God takes them!

Prodisee Pantry - Alabama

by Nathan Norman | November 2, 2021 8:57 AM

We are serving in Spanish Fort, Alabama with the Prodisee Pantry filling car trunks with food for those who are in need!  It's so fun to serve in our community and help those who are down on their luck this week. A friendly greeting and a load of food shared in Jesus' name goes a long way!

Our Hearts Are Full

by Cathy Kirk | November 2, 2021 12:58 PM

What a wonderful first day delivering for Meals On Wheels.  We delivered hot spaghetti meals to 15 amazing people that were all so grateful for the service that Meals On Wheels provides.

We were so blessed to spend quite a bit of time chatting with and praying for several of the ladies and men that we delivered meals to today.  Our hearts ached as they shared that having us there meant so much to them.  Most just needed a friendly smile, a hug, and someone just to visit with for a bit.

We can't wait to meet some new friends tomorrow as we serve on a different route.

Knock, Knock

by Brent Kirk | November 2, 2021 1:08 PM

Really enjoy meeting new people and listening to their stories. I am not sure we broke any delivery records today as so many just wanted to chat. Mr. Zac has been struggling with cancer for 11 years and shared his back story as did Ms. Lucy who told us about her experience with her doctor visits after suffering from a drunk driver running her over several years ago as well as all the problems she has been having trying to get her home phone to work. Such a blessing!!!

Back to School!

by Anna Morgan | November 2, 2021 4:09 PM

I am serving at my town/county's local Christian school here in Alabama. This school is such an important part of our community. It is truly a light on a hill and a safe place for so many children in our area. The administrator and teachers work tirelessly to invest in kids and share Jesus with each student who walks in the door.

Today I had the privilege of organizing the storage room with one of the seniors and painting one of the classrooms.

Team Memphis!

by Carissa Hildebrandt | November 2, 2021 4:39 PM

We have a group of 10 pelican adults and 12 pelican babies serving together today in Memphis! We started out our morning working at Knowledge Quest Green Leaf Garden, an urban farm, pulling weeds and making sure that the fall veggies looked healthy. After a quick lunch, we jumped into projects at Monument of Love Church. We've spent the afternoon deep cleaning and are wrapping up our day decorating some bulletin boards.

Extended Table of Jesus; Metodista San Pablo, PR

by Christian Rivera Gonzalez | November 3, 2021 10:51 AM

Today we are serving alongside pastor Nilka Marrero from Iglesia Metodista San Pablo in Barrio Obrero, PR. After the disaster of Hurricane Maria in 2017, this church has been helping this community to rise up through service projects and a soup kitchen.

Today we are helping prepare the parsonage of the church, which is going to be used to host missionaries that are coming to minister to the community in the following days. We are also helping with donations for low-income residents in Barrio Obrero, and the soup kitchen ministry.

Lunch Time at Metodista San Pablo!

by Christian Rivera Gonzalez | November 3, 2021 12:05 PM

Here in Puerto Rico after helping clean the parsonage, we are now helping feed the community with a plate of white rice, beans, and corned beef. This is the best restaurant in the San Juan area! And the best part,  Jesus paid the tab for us!

Paint, Paint, and More Paint!

by Fiorella Villafuerte | November 3, 2021 3:50 PM

Belén, Costa Rica!

After getting some paint and brushes, we arrived at Pastor Allen’s church in Belén!

There, Connie, Jonny, and Fio had a blast painting the sidewalks around the church building!

Green is an amazing color and it looks so great on those sidewalks!

Laughter

by Fiorella Villafuerte | November 3, 2021 3:53 PM

We painted, but we also had so much fun with Pastor Allen! We talked about Ministry, about the church, and he even gave us some tips for life!

We talked about how we painted! And we laughed! We love to serve! We love God!

We love our pastors!

Helping at a local school

by Adriana Leal Espinoza | November 4, 2022 9:10 PM

Today I had the opportunity to visit a local school. Fun fact: this is the elementary school I went to! The principal sent me to help the first-grade teacher with some paperwork; I also helped grade homework and checked the temperature when the kids arrived. Overall this was a good experience because I knew they needed some help. Thankful for the opportunity to do this!

God moment!

by Gloirgens Jean | November 2, 2023 3:23 PM

I was led by the Holy Spirit to the house of one the pastors in my community, Pastor Lamarre Geres, that I didn't meet before; he is paralyzed from the earthquake last year August 14th, he has to lay on his bed and can't move, his wife is doing everything for him. I went to his house because I was looking to buy fish and he's a reseller; I had the opportunity to share my story with him and some word of encouragement before I prayed over the family. It was a special moment that he said he will never forget. How amazing is God!!!

P/s. I couldn't take picture of that, I didn't want him to feel sad or offended.

God moment!
