Sunday Blessings

by Morgan Shepherd | March 14, 2022 1:00 AM

We arrived safely last night!

This morning, we got to attend Sunday School and church at Mount Olive Baptist Church, which is where we will be serving this week. We enjoyed the joyful praise and worship, and Pastor Harris gave a great sermon from Hosea 4.

After church, we got to try the best po’ boys in town and Pastor came and introduced himself and told us more about the church and Lake Charles.

Today has been such a blessing and we are excited to be a part of the recovery of this amazing and strong community!

Our Hearts Cry “Thank You, God”

by Morgan Shepherd | March 14, 2022 1:08 AM

We have a total of three teams lodging together this week.  We get to eat, fellowship, worship, and debrief together! We started debrief off tonight with a time of worship, which we will do nightly, and just spent time giving thanks to the Lord and resting in Him.

Praying Pelican Painters

by Morgan Shepherd | March 15, 2022 11:07 AM

Monday morning, we started right away on our projects! We have a painting crew and a dry wall crew. We spent some time taping and prepping the walls, and then jumped right into painting. Everyone was working hard and we are on a great path to complete all of the rooms that need painting!

These Walls Are Coming Down

The dry wall team split up even more, and half worked on demoing a couple rooms. Carson was tearing down those walls!

God Equips Those He Calls

by Morgan Shepherd | March 15, 2022 11:27 AM

The other half of the dry wall team tackled putting up the sheet rock. There were some electrical and wire issues that we worked to resolve as well. It’s so cool how God prepares us with talents and past experience to be able to do the job in front of us well.

Caring About the Little Things

by Morgan Shepherd | March 15, 2022 11:38 AM

One of the stairs in the church had rotted due to flooding and was unusable, causing you to have to skip the bottom stair. This small problem was potentially very dangerous, and Dave took one look at it and said, “I can fix that.” And so with Grant’s help, he took it apart and rebuilt the step with better wood!

Clean Up Crew

by Morgan Shepherd | March 19, 2022 5:17 PM

We started off Tuesday morning with picking up the abundance of trash that had been scattered on the church lawn and sidewalk.

Continuing the Painting

Once the trash had been collected and bagged up, we split up into our crews again. We picked up where we left off with the painting and got right to work!

Hiding Wires

by Morgan Shepherd | March 19, 2022 5:30 PM

Paxton worked by himself most of the day to tackle the wires that needed to be hidden into the walls. He came up with the idea to drill a hole into each 2x4, and it worked out really well!
