Arrival!!!

Our team arrived today at Belize's international airport safe and sound. After arriving we stopped by a local hotel and had a short lunch. Afterward we headed west. On our way to Belmopan, our base for the week, we stopped by Golden Haven Rest Home- a home for the elderly in Hattieville, Belize. It was a great opportunity to minister to some needy men and women. We had the chance to pray with a number of the residents and sang some songs with them, brightening their day! We handed out some shirts, socks, and a few other things as well. Our next stop was Belmopan. We arrived at the Yim Saan hotel in the mid afternoon and many of us took naps, so many were tired from the long travel. We had supper here at the hotel and will have a team orientation meeting tonight. We're looking forward to the great things God is going to do this week and interested to see how he'll use each and every one of us!

First Full Day in Belize

Today we had some breakfast at our hotel and then headed to St. Margaret’s village. When we arrived, we saw the addition that Lagoon Road Baptist has been working on. We got to enjoy the worship and Sunday school at the church. The service was started by the Belizeans; they lead with a couple songs, communion, and some sharing from Pastor. Each age group had either the whole class or a couple representatives share about what was discussed in their Sunday school class. It was soon our turn to share what we had to contribute to the morning. During our portion of the service, we did a skit, sang some songs, and a few of us shared things that were on our hearts. After the service, they served us a light refreshment of sandwiches and juice. When we had a chance to meet a few of the church members, loaded the bus and headed back to the hotel for some pizza. We had a short break during which some showered while others slept. Our training meeting consisted of a lesson on how to share the gospel. We rode back to St. Margaret’s to invite the villagers to the evening services and Vacation Bible School. When we returned we had a dinner of chicken, biscuits and mashed potatoes. At tonight’s service we did the Freedom skit. Pastor Dan shared his testimony along with a few of us from Liberty Baptist. We sang a few songs and Pastor George shared a message. Then back to the Yim Saan hotel for our nightly meeting of sharing highlights, going over schedule for the next day, and worship.

What a day!

Ask around our group and you'll get a unanimous response across the board- today God was at work in many ways. The day reflected the presence of God in everything that happened. Our first day of Vacation Bible School was a huge success. With 110 children attending the event, just enough, as we had crafts for 112! Some changes are being made to accommadate more children, as we expect the number to rise throughout the week. Our team was escorted by some children on a short hike to the river, where they got a refreshing dose of cold spring water. Many jumped in and came back to the church soaking wet! Rachel and Carrie led a small group of young ladies in their first music lesson. The ladies spent the entire afternoon together discussing and studying the basics of music theory, a great first day of that as well! The construction project at the church is soaring! Many things happened throughout the day with the project. If you don't know- the church is busting at the seams and one of the focuses of our week is helping with the addition of two new classrooms and a bathroom, and in the process the Church sanctuary will be expanded as well. Carrie got an amazing blessing this morning when the topic of a septic tank came up. She worked with the locals throughout the day on the plans for the tank as many others helped move water, lay cinder blocks, mix cement, and do odd jobs to contribute to the overall project. Jimmy, Brad, Pastor George and Pastor Ed took a short walk and came back with two men named Richard and Christian, and along with them was a back hoe! The septic hole was dug with the back hoe and we had a chance to minister to the two men. Pastor Tuten has been invited into Richard's home tomorrow, a great chance for him to share the gospel! One of the men helping with the construction project this week is Lorenzo. He's a great guy and everyone loves him. Today he rededicated his life to Christ! If tomorrow is anything like today we have so much to look forward to! God is so good!

Yesterday our group headed out again to Lagoon Road Baptist church to begin the morning with VBS. The children enjoyed playing games, singing songs, and creating a craft. We had a lunch of vegetable rice, garlic fishing, plantain, and a fruit dish. After eating, we divided into groups and set out to do some projects. A few of us stayed at the church to work on some construction – putting up cinder blocks for the addition to the church. Some others went out into the village to perform a drama three times and did some evangelism. After we had worked at our projects for a while, we rotated and got to do the other. The remaining few taught music lessons for some locals. We all came back together; most went to the soccer field to play with the kids while a few stayed back to finish up construction and clean up. Dinner was at our hotel, a buffet of chicken fried rice and beef chow mien, was served with lime juice. We had a little break before our evening meeting; then we headed off to bed.

Wednesday, July 16th

Today we returned to St. Margaret’s Village to put on our third day of VBS. We sang songs, did a craft, enjoyed games with the kids, and did the puppet show under the cabana outside the church. Right after VBS was done, we hopped on the bus to start the hour ride to Jaguar Paw – our midweek recreation spot. We put on our zipline gear and started the trek up to the first platform. The ride consisted of about five lines, each of which we would go down and wait for the others, then go down the next. At the end the way down the last platform was to free fall, with our guide controlling the speed of our decent. For a late lunch we had chicken, rice and beans, and coleslaw at the Jaguar Paw Resort. We then headed to the cave to swim and float down through the caves for about forty five minutes. Our ride back to the hotel was a much cooler one than usual because of how cool we were from swimming. We had just a few minutes to change for church and return to the bus so that we could get to the church before the pastor; there was to be a surprise birthday party for Pastor Ed. We got there in time and presented to him a card and a Spanish English Bible. There was chocolate cake as well to celebrate. The evening service went well with a few testimonies from Christy, Beth, Adam, and Carrie. Micah shared a sermon; a few people came to the front to accept Christ for the first time. Praise God! After we said ‘see you later’ , we were on the bus returning to the hotel for the night. We had a brief meeting on the bus to reflect on the day and to hear about tomorrow’s schedule. Thank you for your prayers! God is at work!

Backhoe to the Rescue

We needed to dig a hole for the bathroom that the church wanted, but before we started to dig manually, Jimmy found a backhoe. He asked the owner if we could use it. It turned out that the owner didn't know how to use it. So, Jimmy used his skill to help Lagoon Road Baptist dig a hole, and the backhoe owner by teaching him how to use the machine.

A New Brother!

Through our time here in Belize, we have made many new relationships. Lorenzo is one of the Belizeans that we have had the priviledge of working with. He is one of the natives that has been helping with the construction. Dan got the chance to share the salvation story with Lorenzo and he accepted Christ! Praise God!

Thursday

Well today was our final day of ministry at Lagoon Road Baptist Church. It was an amazing day. Our final Vacation Bible School went very well. It was hard beginning early in the day knowing we were saying good bye. We then had our final lunch from our cooks- Polita and company. The afternoon was again filled with plenty of work for our team to help with. Pastor George, Micah, Kevin, Brad, Chris, ect all helped lay blocks on the new addition. A number of people including Kristi, Nikki and Brad helped lay rock in the new septic tank hole. Will and a few others contributed by cutting and tying steel rebar (supports for the cement work). We had a closing ceremony with some of the church members, the pastors, our cooks, and some workers. It was a special time to be able to show our appreciation to others and pray for the church. We all received certificates of appreciation from Lagood Road and a Belize key chain as a keep sake. It was an emotional ride home for many of us as it's so hard to leave those who we drew close to during the week. This evening we had enchiladas at a place called the Bannana Bank Lodge. We had to hop on a boat and we were pulled across the river to arrive at the lodge for supper. We then had a team meeting at the lodge. Our team arrived back at the hotel and is busy preparing for a day of fun tomorrow on a tropical island. Thanks so much for your prayers. The week has been simply amazing. Completed Construction

This is the new addition of the church that we were able to help build. When we got to Lagoon Road Baptist, about half of the wall was up. God gave us the wonderful opportunity to pour into the lives of the congregation and workers as we put the wall up. Praise God!

Thursday Outing

After our final day of ministry, we headed out to a place called Banana Bank for dinner. We rode the bus into the jungle, got on a boat to go across a river, and walked up to the Banana Bank Lodge. We had a wonderful dinner and a meeting in the loft.

Day on the Caye

Yesterday we got up early and headed to Belize City to start our debriefing day. We stopped at Global Village Hotel in Ladyville, to lock up our luggage. Then went to the Water Taxi Terminal to hop on a boat to Caye Caulker. Our ride was forty-five minutes to the Tsunami dock to get our snorkeling gear. From the dock, we went out a few minutes to the second largest reef in the world to look at God’s creation. We were in the water for a few hours floating through the coral and seeing some wildlife. After our water adventure, we went to our hotel to check in. The afternoon was ours to roam and find some lunch. We met back at the hotel for our debriefing meeting. Micah and Nick lead us in worship, we listened to the week’s schedule, shared highlights, thought about how we can take home what we learned this week, and heard a few words from Pastor George.

Time to Return Home

This morning we got up and some did a little shopping before eating breakfast. We headed for the water taxi and rode back to Belize City with another Praying Pelican group. The boat was filled with singing voices as we lifted up our King with our praises. We landed and headed for Global Village to do any last minute packing of liquids and such. Marconi, our bus rider, brought us to the airport where there were many hugs and a few tears. We said a farewell to our leaders and we off to return home.

Dan's Requested Schedule

On Saturday, you met at church at 2 in the morning. You may have sorted through some last minute details and were soon on your way to the airport. You finally made it to Belize and were picked up at the airport by some Pelicans. We drove to Global Village Hotel to have a lunch of peanut butter and jelly or meat sandwiches. Next, we rode to Golden Haven Rest Home. Who did you talk to? What did you talk about? Many of you wanted to stay as we made our way back to the bus to head to our hotel in Belmopan. We got there and settled in, had some dinner and a meeting. And your first day in Belize was done. Sunday we got up and went to church. We sat in different Sunday school classrooms that morning. Which one were you in? Were you with the little children, teens, adults? Next, was the church service; many of us shared in it. The church served us a snack of sandwiches and juice while we fellowshipped with them. We got on the bus and headed back for a pizza lunch. Back at the hotel we had an orientation meeting to learn about how to share the gospel. We went back to Lagoon Road Baptist for dinner and an evening service. Again, many of you played a part in the service. At the end of the night, we had a meeting and headed for bed. Monday morning we got up, had some breakfast, and headed to St. Margaret’s Village for our first full day of ministry. For Vacation Bible School, the children got to makea craft, eat a snack, sing some songs, play games, and hear a story. While some of you were being with the children, others on the team were working with cinder blocks. What ministry were you participating in? Who did you form relationships with? We had lunch in the village and many headed to the river. Some came back in time for music lessons. Did it surprise you how willing the Belizeans were to learn? They seemed to yearn for knowledge. We had dinner that evening and returned to the hotel for our meeting. Tuesday brought another day of ministry. VBS and construction, lunch from our wonderful local cooks, a run to the river, and music lessons. This afternoon brought some home visits as many went out to invite people to the Wednesday night service. Who did you talk to? Did they receive you well? We returned to the hotel for a dinner of chicken fried rice and pork chow mein and our evening meeting. And your second full day of ministry was completed. Wednesday brought a breakfast of pancakes, a morning of VBS, and an afternoon of recreation. Promptly after VBS was over for the day, we hopped on the bus and headed to Jaguar Paw. We put on some zipline gear and started our short hike up to the first platform. Were you afraid? Did you get a rush? After our faith was exercised, we walked to the resort to eat lunch. When we finished eating, we got our tubes and head lights, and walked down to the caves. We stopped right outside and went for a refreshing swim. As we floated into the cave, we saw God’s creation. Do you remember the stalactites and stalagmites? What about the place where the sun shone in and you could see the plants? After our ride through the caves, we made a quick stop at the hotel to change. That was probably the quickest change you have done in your life. We headed off to the church to put on a surprise party for Pastor Ed. He had been tricked by Jon and was thoroughly enjoying the night and the Bible that was given to him. The service went well that night with Micah sharing from his heart and many of you sharing in the service. We returned to the Yim Saan Hotel for a meeting and some sleep. We were now more than halfway through the week. Thursday we got up and headed back to Lagoon Road Baptist. There was VBS and construction in the morning. The afternoon brought some praying walking in the rain. There was another river run to clean up a bit before our closing ceremony. That did not pass without tears and many hugs. We had supper and headed back for our meeting. Friday morning we got up a little early and maybe grabbed some breakfast before getting on the bus to ride to Belize City. Before we got there, we made a pit stop at Global to lock up our luggage. A few of got drinks before leaving for the water taxi terminal. Once there we loaded the boat and headed for the Caye. We got a little rain but arrived at the Tsunami dock to get snorkel gear. The few minute ride to the reef went by quickly and we were soon in the water gazing at God’s creation. What did you see? What reminded you most of God’s awesomeness? We returned to the island and got settled into our hotel. The afternoon was yours to get some lunch and roam the island. And now we are at our final meeting. After our meeting, we walked to dinner at Marin’s for fish, shrimp, chicken, potatoes, rice, bread, and watermelon served with limejuice. Saturday morning we got up, some were up early to shop, others slept in and almost missed breakfast. We rode back to Belize City with another Praying Pelican group and sang to our King. From the water taxi terminal we rode with Marconi to Global Village to retrieve our bags and possibly reorganize them. We loaded the bus after a group picture and headed to the airport where we said our goodbyes and headed home.

Wow! how blessed we were to be able to talk to Pastor George early this morning. (6:00 their time). We were laughing and crying at the same time as all of you here at home will be doing when you hear the unbelievable stories that they have to share with us. Today they are going to do some fun things (like snorkeling). The thing that amazes us is how God has used this special group from Bear, De. to go there and love and help these people and then share the gospel of Jesus Christ and many have been saved. I'm sure many other teams have gone before them but God allowed them to get this awesome blessing. We can hardly wait to hear more from all of you. I know you are all sad and happy at the same time because you are leaving and yet returning to your homes. We are praying for God to get you-all home safely.See y'all Sunday! Psalm 91:11

Hi everyone. I went to my brother's church last night in Townsend. T heir prayer meeting was ALL prayer. Pastor Jay felt the need to do this as one of their faithful was given bad news about his terminal illness. Everyone shared what was on their hearts. I told them about all of you and what you were doing for God's Glory in Belize. They are now praying for you also. I am so happy to hear how well VBS is going and how many are attending. I know they must love the songs. The A-B-C song is still going round and round in my head. The daily newsletters are great and I'm praying for your safe return.

Jimmy ~ I saw you on the back hoe! What a great job you are doing for the people God has in Belize! Gosh, I wish I had gone with you! My church has a mission team in Peru right now, on the Amazon River. What am I doing here? PRAYING FOR YOU ALL ! You are a great kid, Jimmy. I hope you will break through not just ground for church buildings but stoney ground for the receiving of the Word of God in the hearts of the people He gave His only begotten Son for. I am praying for your health, safety and most of all for the lives you will touch. I know God has given each of you a special talent that will enable the people of Belize to see the joy in your hearts from knowing and being faithful to God. I am excited in the Lord for your safefy on the first phase of this mission trip. I know many of the Liberty Baptist Church folks are and have prayed for each of you since your departure. We are excited that each of you are in God's harvest fields there, so reap his harvest of lost souls and plant new seeds for His next harvest. Carrie, The Sunday School class is praying for you and all the rest of the team. We went through Ezekiel Chp. 33 on the Watchman parable. It was appropriate for both you and Adam and the Moore's. May God's blessing enrich you in His service.

Praise the Lord you all are there safely! (answered prayers) When I was in Belize in 2003, the tour guide used a catch phrase a lot......."belize it or not", as a sound a like "believe it or not" for those who don't 'get it'. :-) What you are doing in obedience to God's will.......believe it........is making a difference.......one person saved there is rejoicing in heaven! God be with you all and blessings be yours. much love....
