Welcome to Alaska!

by Katrina Hulme | January 24, 2021 1:22 AM

After a long day of travel, all of us leaders arrived in Alaska and explored downtown Anchorage. Then, we enjoyed salmon and halibut burgers before making the drive up to Wasilla! We are excited for the next few days!

Coffee Stop!

by Katrina Hulme | January 24, 2021 1:40 PM

We were all awake pretty early as we adjust to the time change, so a coffee stop was in order! Most coffee shops in Alaska are little drive-up/walk-up huts.

Snowy Adventures

by Katrina Hulme | January 24, 2021 1:44 PM

Before church, we took a quick drive to see a frozen lake in Wasilla and a glacial river in Palmer. The fresh snow this morning is beautiful, and we are having some fun making snowballs, sliding on ice, and taking in the beauty!

It was refreshing and encouraging to spend some time in worship with Mat-Su Covenant Church this morning!

Retreat Center

We were amazed by the Alaskan wilderness and the beauty at the retreat center in Chickaloon! After taking in silence and listening to the Lord, Byron shared about the vision and ministries of CYAK (Covenant Youth of Alaska) while we all sat in a yurt!!

We learned that CYAK is a ministry dedicated to serving the youth and young adults of Alaska, and has a strong presence in 12 villages and a few of the larger cities in Alaska.

Moose Moment

by Alissa Danielson | January 24, 2021 9:54 PM

On our drive from Chickaloon to our next partner visit in Palmer, God blessed us with the incredible opportunity to see some moose along the side of the road! This mama and her babies were patient enough to allow us to snap a few pictures from the safety of our van.

the YAK

by Alissa Danielson | January 24, 2021 9:59 PM

Our last partner visit of the day was with Andy, the Director of the YAK. The YAK offers after school programming and adventure trips in the summer to give the youth of Palmer a warm place to hang out with other youth and be poured into by Christ-loving volunteers.

Breakfast Bags!

by Katrina Hulme | January 25, 2021 4:29 PM

We had the opportunity to serve at Frontline Mission this morning by packing 250 breakfast bags that will be given to children in the area. The staff shared how needs have increased since the pandemic began, and they have more people coming in for help. It was great to see how ministry is still happening safely in the midst of the pandemic.

We walked out on the Kincaid Sand Dunes at dusk to see the sun set. It was very cold, but so worth it!

Unity & Prayer

by Katrina Hulme | January 26, 2021 5:30 PM

We shared dinner with Pastor Ben at the Unity Center and then heard about his ministry in the community. He pastors C3 church in a neighbor with many needs, and the church partners alongside the local elementary school to build relationships and offer the hope found in Jesus! We ended our time with powerful prayer over the ministry and community.

Food Distribution

by Katrina Hulme | January 26, 2021 5:37 PM

This morning we were able to serve at New Hope on the Last Frontier. Usually they have a little store where people can come and choose what they need. However, since COVID, they have been packing grocery bags. This requires extra volunteers and we were able to help pack these bags. Today, over 150 people were able to get some groceries!

More Groceries!

Laughter and joking ensued as we packed more groceries!

The Power of Prayer

by Katrina Hulme | January 26, 2021 5:39 PM

After each meeting this week, we spent some time praying over our Alaskan partners and pastors. This is our heart: to encourage & uplift the local church!

Just the Beginning...

by Katrina Hulme | January 26, 2021 5:42 PM

We cannot get enough of those views! We stopped for one more photo op of the mountains before saying goodbye to part of our team this afternoon. We are so excited to return with our teams this summer!
