Trinity Arrives Today!

by PPM Staff | December 27, 2011 2:32 PM

Trinity Church is schedule to arrive at 4:45pm this evening at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston, Jamaica. We're eagerly awaiting their arrival. The church and community in Balmagie are excited and there is a lot of ministry waiting to be done! Thanks for your prayers as our team begins their adventure in Jamaica!

We're here!

by PPM Staff | December 27, 2011 10:14 PM

Our team arrived in Jamaica safe and sound and right on time after a long day of travel. Our lodging facility is Crowne College, which is very similar to what we know as a community college back in the States. We enjoyed a fantastic first Jamaican meal of chicken, beef, rice and peas, and veggies, prepared by our friends from Balmagie Baptist led by Marcia Richards. After dinner we spent time going over some plans for the week and worshiping together. Our ministry teams have just finished meeting and going over their plans for the kids program tomorrow and we're getting ready for bed. Cold showers for everyone! Yay! Tomorrow brings a great adventure and opportunities for ministry in Balmagie! Thanks for your prayers and support! All is well in Kingston, Jamaica!

Wednesday's Ministries

by PPM Staff | December 28, 2011 5:39 PM

Our ministry today was spectacular. We had a very tastey breakfast and headed over to the Balmagie Baptist Church for the first time. Some of our team got started early in the day mixing cement to help pour the roof on the multi-purpose building that needs enclosing in order to be used as an office and community center type of building. The rest of our team had the chance to walk through Balmagie and invite kids to our children's program. After spending a short time walking the streets of Balmagie, we had a good crowd of 60+ kids! It was fantastic spending time with the children today. This afternoon the work continued despite the heat and some of our team spent time visiting various homes throughout the community getting to know others throughout the area and simply spreading God's love to others. We helped the church nearly finish up the pouring of the roof and we're looking forward to a lighter (less tenuous) work project tomorrow! Tonight we grab our cold showers and get ready to spend time in worship and fellowship. God is good!

Thursday ministry in Kingston

by PPM Staff | December 29, 2011 8:41 PM

Chow was on stilts for our day with the kids at the Balmagie Baptist Church! We had more children today and had a fantastic time! This afternoon half of our team went to the Jamaican National Children's home and spent time with kids there. The facility houses about 45 young people ages 5-18 and is run by the Methodist church. The other half of our team prepared the trailer at the church for painting tomorrow by scraping and sanding down the rusty metal. Tonight we met Sabastian and Shyla, the youth fellowship leaders at the Balmagie Baptist Church, as we enjoyed a "Jamaican" youth group service! Fabian, also from Balmagie, encouraged us with his testimony of how God recently provided for him financially with acquiring funds for school. Among others, Sam gave his testimony tonight about how God really showed Him that going through hard times develops character and perseverance. Today was election day and all is well across the island especially in Kingston. Soon we should know who the Prime Minister will be going forward. We haven't heard a peep of unrest or partying but expect to see some people celebrating tomorrow morning.

Home Visits

by PPM Staff | December 30, 2011 10:52 PM

Today some of our team spent time visiting some homes in the community. We had the chance to pray with residents, read scripture with them, and maybe most valuable of all, hear about their faith! It was an eye opening time for us to experience how joyful the people are who live in inner city Kingston that are followers of Christ! Here you can see Alyssa reading scripture to a neighbor of Faye, who is a member of the church.

Mi Dea

by PPM Staff | December 30, 2011 10:54 PM

"Mi Dea" translates "I'm cool" or "I'm doing well" from patios to English. It can also be used to describe our final day of kid's club at the Balmagie Baptist Church. We had more kids than the previous days and had a chance to share about the death and resurrection of Jesus! Many of the children also got their faces painted!

Christmas program & "I Scream"

by PPM Staff | December 30, 2011 10:58 PM

Tonight was a ton of fun! We attended a special Christmas performance that was put on by the Balmagie Baptist Church. There was dancing, acting, singing, and monologues. Zach and Phoebe were able to help lead a couple of songs as well! Afterward, we went into Kingston to the Devon Great House and got ice cream! The place was decorated for Christmas and packed with Jamaicans! We really enjoyed it! A great way to end a great day! Tomorrow we go to Ocho Rios on the north coast for a time of recreation, swimming and shopping!

New Years Eve in Jamaica!

by PPM Staff | December 31, 2011 9:55 PM

It's New Years Eve! Right now we're at Crowne and we're getting ready to celebrate! Today has been amazing. We went to Dunn's River Falls, a park along the north coast, where we swam in the clear blue water and climbed a gradual waterfall from the hills that pours into the ocean. We got to spend some time in the town of Ocho Rios and bought some souvenirs. This evening when we returned to Kingston we had one last chance to hang out with our friends at the Balmagie Baptist Church. Faye, Eula, Marcia, and the other church ladies put on a Church Social for us that featured amazing chicken, goat, fish, and various rice and pasta. A lot of children who are our new friends were there to bid us farewell also. It was hard to say goodbye.

Farewell!

by PPM Staff | January 1, 2012 8:10 PM

Today we worshiped at the Tarrant Baptist Church, which is just down the road from Crowne College. Pastor Jeffrey Shuttleworth delivered us a message which challenged us all to begin a new chapter in the book of our lives. Tarrant Baptist is the sister church to Balmagie Baptist, and provides much support to the inner city congregation with which we served this week. After lunch we had a time to debrief and share how God has worked in our lives this week and what we're appreciative of. After packing up and cleaning up, we headed into Kingston for an early dinner. Some of us enjoyed Island Grill (Jamaican Jerk fast food) and some chose the more American BK! Our team is now ready to fly home. Our hearts and minds will never forget our experience here in Jamaica. Thank you all for your prayers and support during this amazing experience. Until next year! Trinity Church saying goodbye to Jamaica (for now!)
