Block Party in Tabor City

by Morgan Shepherd | June 5, 2021 7:02 PM

We all arrived safely this afternoon and started out our trip with some time to hangout and play some sports. We got to meet Pastor Nate and some people from Hope Church, who we get to partner with this week! Pastor Nate shared a bit about his church, which is a new church plant, and we are really excited to be worshiping with him tomorrow!

Grab a Seat

by Morgan Shepherd | June 6, 2021 12:57 PM

Hope Church uses a wedding venue as their space for worship, so we got to help set up the room by taking down tables and setting up rows of chairs.

What’s Your Name Again?

by Morgan Shepherd | June 6, 2021 12:59 PM

We had a bit of time before service started, so we broke up into random groups in order to meet and talk with some students from the other team as well. We talked about our favorite Bible verse, past trips, and many other things. It was a great way to break the ice!

Church with a Capital C

by Morgan Shepherd | June 6, 2021 2:54 PM

Pastor Nate gave a great sermon this morning about our DNA as a Church and how Church isn’t a building, but a body of people. We are excited to live that out this week!

Play Time

by Morgan Shepherd | June 6, 2021 3:09 PM

While waiting for others to finish lunch (which Hope Church cooked for us!), William grabbed a racket and played a game with a boy from the church!

The VBS Planners

by Morgan Shepherd | June 6, 2021 9:10 PM

This afternoon we spent some time prepping for our VBS on Monday and Tuesday! We split up into three groups to prepare lessons, games, and crafts. There were lots of good ideas floating around each group and we are looking forward to loving on the kids!

Wanna Come to VBS?

by Morgan Shepherd | June 6, 2021 9:22 PM

In order to spread the word about VBS and Hope Church, we went to a couple local apartment complexes and handed out flyers. Some groups knocked on doors and were able to have some conversations with people, and others left a flyer and prayed for the family that lives there. It was a great experience to get outside our comfort zones and also pray for the area we are serving!

It’s a Good Morning to Have a Good Morning

by Morgan Shepherd | June 7, 2021 7:00 AM

Starting the day off in the Word! Ross led us in a devo this morning about Daniel and the lion’s den, which we are teaching the kids at VBS.

Building Bridges Community Center

by Justin Jones | June 7, 2021 11:57 AM

We are working at the Building Bridges Community Center today. Building Bridges is an after-school education program in the city of Fair Bluff. The community center was damaged in the last hurricane and has been sitting there ever since. We are finishing the drywall that a PPM team started last week, building a mailbox, replacing a toilet, and power washing the outside of the building.

Flipping into VBS

by Morgan Shepherd | June 7, 2021 8:56 PM

We started VBS off this morning with a cartwheel tournament! The record is 12 in a row!

Lean on Me

by Morgan Shepherd | June 7, 2021 9:00 PM

In an attempt to get the kids out of their shell, we did some team-building exercises!

He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands

by Morgan Shepherd | June 7, 2021 9:09 PM

"God’s Love" was the theme of VBS today and we put on a skit for the kids showing how God loves the world so much and how sin entered the world and He sent Jesus to wipe all our sins away.

A Jump, Skip, and a Hop

by Morgan Shepherd | June 7, 2021 9:26 PM

One of our activities at VBS today was an obstacle course relay race!

Pull!!

by Morgan Shepherd | June 7, 2021 10:19 PM

Brad joined us this year, and we are so thankful for his presence and leadership on this trip! Being a PE teacher, he was totally able to use his skills to help out with the VBS activities. Of course he had a tug of war rope and of course we had to play!

He Shuts the Mouths of Lions

by Morgan Shepherd | June 7, 2021 11:05 PM

Ross led the lesson for today on Daniel and the Lion’s Den. He did a great job keeping the kids engaged and making sure they understood! He also had the kids think about how we can relate this to our own lives and how God loves us and protects us and that our stories can impact other people’s lives for Christ as well.

Bringing the Community Back to Life with CPR

by Morgan Shepherd | June 7, 2021 11:18 PM

We also got to meet Ms Wallyce today. She is in charge of Community CPR, which is a non profit that focuses on providing essentials for families in poverty and/or are still recovering from the hurricane. We got to sit and talk with her and learn about her heart for the ministry, all that she gave up for this, and all of the amazing things God has been doing through her and this nonprofit. She toured us around her warehouses which are full of items to give and shared with us the many projects that need to be done. She has such a big heart and we are excited to be able to serve her this week so that she can continue to serve others!

Socks and Brushes

by Morgan Shepherd | June 8, 2021 8:54 AM

One of Wallyce’s biggest projects for us this week is putting together socks and scrub brushes that Wallyce hands out when she goes to Hurricane Relief events!

God Provides!

by Morgan Shepherd | June 8, 2021 8:59 AM

Wallyce had a truck full of donations for us to unload and put away in the warehouse. It’s really cool to see the variety and abundance of things God has provided to the ministry to be able to bless others!

The Piano Man

by Morgan Shepherd | June 8, 2021 9:29 AM

When Wallyce found out that William plays piano, she got super excited! She has one piano that needed the keys fixed and another that is a player piano that needs the paper rolled, which he knows how to do. God continues to use our gifts to bless others!

Play to End the Day

by Morgan Shepherd | June 8, 2021 9:51 AM

To end our Monday, we went to a local park and had some time to hang out and play and relax after a day of hard work. Some of the girls even used their free time as ministry and played with kids at the playground!

Everyone Has to Get Through the Hoop

by Morgan Shepherd | June 8, 2021 9:43 PM

Today we started VBS off with some team building activities!

Helping the Neighbors

by Justin Jones | June 9, 2021 8:32 AM

While working at Building Bridges Community Center, we noticed the front deck of the house next door was needing a little TLC. So we asked the owner if we could bless them with a new deck. The community of Fair Bluff loves on each other well, this was our opportunity to love on them.

Demo Day is Always a Favorite

by Justin Jones | June 9, 2021 8:36 AM

Yesterday we got to do some demo in the bathroom at Building Bridges Community Center. This bathroom still had mold and water damage from the last hurricane. We are taking out all of the damaged parts and will replace with new drywall.

The Live Action Version

by Morgan Shepherd | June 9, 2021 9:29 AM

For the second day of VBS, we talked about the story of the Good Samaritan and loving others. We put together a skit to help teach the story and the kids loved it!

One for All, All for God!

by Morgan Shepherd | June 9, 2021 9:55 AM

We played a group game of kickball! At the end, Brad huddled everyone up and taught them the chant, “One for all, all for God!” Even in the simplest things, God is showing us ways to plant seeds.

VBS Manicures

by Morgan Shepherd | June 9, 2021 10:12 AM

We brought some nail polish to VBS in case the kids wanted us to paint their nails. The glittery colors were a popular choice! But then it was Jake’s turn. Two sisters were so excited that Jake was okay with it. He said, “It’s a mission trip, I’m going all in.” He got his mani and then proceeded to paint the nails of one of the girls as well.
Even though it was a little crazy, those girls loved it and thought Jake was just the coolest person!

VBS Rocks!

by Morgan Shepherd | June 9, 2021 6:15 PM

Our craft for the second day of VBS was decorating rocks! We made so many. Some were made for each other, and others we put encouraging things and Bible verses on and hid them around the park for people to find!

Fragile!

by Morgan Shepherd | June 9, 2021 7:25 PM

Back at Community CPR, Ally and Sarah have been working hard in the kitchen area sorting and packaging up glassware and assorted kitchen items, some to donate and some to sell to earn money for the ministry

We Juice Love CCPR!

by Morgan Shepherd | June 9, 2021 9:06 PM

Thomas and Jake helped load a pallet full of expired juice onto a truck to get rid of it. By doing so, they opened up a huge spot of space in the warehouse!

Jesus Saved Our Soles

by Morgan Shepherd | June 9, 2021 9:16 PM

Another project that was worked on was organizing donated shoes. The area went from a tripping hazard to being orderly lines of boxes!

by Justin Jones | June 10, 2021 10:59 AM

Today we are at Myrtle Beach playing in the sand and sea. Hoping the rain stays away long enough to enjoy it!
