We made it!

by Jarely Ramirez | March 11, 2019 9:37 AM

After a long road trip, we finally made it to North Carolina. We got acclimated to the area and met some new friends. We are excited to be here and serve those affected by Hurricane Florence. Join us in prayer as we go out and begin working.

Getting Started

by Jarely Ramirez | March 12, 2019 9:40 PM

Day one began with some prayer to help us prepare for a week full of work and serving others. We broke up into teams to help out as many people from the community as possible. Some of us helped remove some insulation from under a house, some helped do some yard clean up among many more things. We made a lot of progress. After all that hard work, we helped Catholic Charities by packing up some boxes full of cleaning supplies, blankets and some food to take to some elderly people that had just been placed into some temporary homes. We visited them and even stuck around to hear some of their stories. We finished our first day strong and are ready to do even more great work in NC

Getting Started

Baptist on Mission

by Caroline Bazin | March 12, 2019 9:54 PM

After an early breakfast and a 30 minute commute yesterday, we made it to the Baptist on Mission's warehouse. There we were given some background information on their ministry, the areas we were serving in, and the impact of Hurricane Florence.

Day One: Roofers

by Caroline Bazin | March 12, 2019 9:54 PM

Our group was split up into 4 different teams. One of our teams went to a house that is in need of roofing repair. Some of us hoped on the roof and ripped some shingles and rotted wood out. The other two stay inside to remove and replace insulation.

Day One: Crawlspace Team

by Caroline Bazin | March 12, 2019 9:55 PM

Another team got dirty, ripping out and replacing insulation underneath the house. It was a dirty job, but it was fun. This is one of the last steps in getting the homeowners back into their homes!

Day One: Inventory and Organizing

by Caroline Bazin | March 12, 2019 9:56 PM

Baptist on Mission is in great need of help around the warehouse. In preparation for a new shipment of supplies coming in, another team took inventory, organized, and cleaned their warehouse.

It was a great place to be, serving the servants.

Ceiling Insulation

by Caroline Bazin | March 12, 2019 10:00 PM

We are getting very comfortable with insulation this week! One of our teams spent the morning installing insulation in the ceiling. Meanwhile, another team was installing insulation in the crawlspace of another house.

To quote Alanea,"We've wrapped homes with the love of Jesus!"

Teamwork

These guys were getting each other prepped to move survivors out of hotel rooms where they've lived 6 months, into FEMA trailers!

From Hotel to Trailer

by Caroline Bazin | March 12, 2019 10:02 PM

Part of our team spent the afternoon helping storm survivors move out of their hotel rooms into FEMA trailers. It was a privilege to be able to help them out and to get to know them and their stories.

The rest of the team was back at the Catholic Charities Warehouse prepping supply boxes and pantry items to welcome these survivors into their new homes.

It was a good day! We're looking forward to tomorrow, our last full work day!

The work must continue

by Jarely Ramirez | March 13, 2019 6:51 AM

Once again, we woke up feeling pumped and ready to do even more. We continued the work that we started yesterday and were blessed at the opportunity to be able to meet the owners of the homes we were working it. People were very grateful for the work we were doing in their homes and it’s helped motivate us to do even more work around these communities. After finishing up some projects we headed out to help some people move out of some homes and into their new homes. The elderly were beyond grateful and loved having some company. They even told us some great stories. Today couldn’t have gone any better! Ready to start our last full day tomorrow. We’ve been so busy that we didn’t realize how quick the week is going by!

The work must continue

Relaxing

by Jarely Ramirez | March 13, 2019 9:38 AM

After a long day of work, some of the team took some time to just relax and spend some time together. They even went as far as to make a pyramid for us to enjoy! As you can see, nothing can stop this team from having a good time

Almost Done

by Jarely Ramirez | March 14, 2019 7:19 AM

Wednesday consisted of finishing up some projects with Baptist On Mission. We finished up pulling out some insulation from under a house and then headed over to Catholic Charities to start a new project. The house in the picture is where we started to work, pulling some weeds, cutting up some gras and even powerwashing it a bit to help out these homeowners. We plan on finishing it up tomorrow and we’ll be sure to post a picture of the after shot of this house!

Moving and Loving

We had the privilege to help Ms. Ellen move out of her hotel room, into a FEMA trailer yesterday. She greatly appreciated the extra hands, but even more so, appreciated the conversation!

We were sad to begin saying our goodbyes yesterday. Working with Linda from Baptist on Mission was such a treat!

We've been spending time each night together as a team. It's been so sweet to debrief together, to grow together, and to learn together.
