We're Here!!

by Ronda Baldwin | November 7, 2018 4:03 PM

After a pretty easy drive across Pennsylvania, we made it to Moundsville, WV. We're so excited about what the Lord is going to do this week!

Praying Over the City

by Andrew Smith | November 7, 2018 4:13 PM

After unloading luggage we went to the highest point in the city and took time to ask God to prepare our hearts for what lies ahead.

We silence our hearts and minds to hear the living God breathe and move through us.

It is not coiencedence that all of us are gathered here today.

Expect God to do some big things with this group!

Appalachian Outreach Warehouse

by Ronda Baldwin | November 8, 2018 5:28 PM

Appalachian Outreach is an organization that collects donations of all kinds and distributes them around the entire state of West Virginia. Anyone who is in need, especially those affected by natural disaster, fires, or other tragedies, are able to receive whatever they need to start over. We were blessed to help sort donations from individuals, remove store stickers from brand new donations from stores, make posters, and rewire some lights. It was a joy to help and encourage the full time volunteers at this ministry.

Don't Forget Our Furry Friends!

by Ronda Baldwin | November 8, 2018 5:31 PM

One of the things many people forget about in times of trouble or disaster are the animals. Some of us were moved to tears at the opportunity to help take care of some of the animals displaced by the floods and abandoned bu those who can't afford to care for them.

Lift, Spackle, Paint Team

by Ronda Baldwin | November 8, 2018 5:39 PM

Some of the most fun of the day was the team helping restore Pastor Sean's office at Messiah Lutheran Church after a fire earlier this year. One of the boys even said, "I'm having so much fun, I could skip lunch!" Serving can be full of laughter and fun!

Community Kitchen

by Ronda Baldwin | November 8, 2018 10:58 PM

Part of our group served at the community kitchen today, and all of us got to eat lunch with the people who are served by that ministry. It was like watching Jesus in action as the needs of the community were met through meals and conversation.

Laughlin Chapel

by Ronda Baldwin | November 8, 2018 11:01 PM

The Laughlin Chapel is an after school program serving underprivileged kids in Wheeling, WV. We got to hang out with the first and second graders, help them with homework, and play games with them. We're so excited to go back on Saturday to serve them a pancake breakfast and have a talent show and game day with them!

How is Our Work Making a Difference?

by Ronda Baldwin | November 8, 2018 11:06 PM

We ended our first day of ministry with a presentation by Ms. Rose from Appalachian Outreach. She told us about the history, culture, and problems in WV, and how Appalachian Outreach works to address those things. It helped us see how the little jobs we are doing add up to big things in helping this community and the whole state.

Puppies, Puppies and More Puppies!

by Ronda Baldwin | November 9, 2018 9:39 PM

Day 2 of ministry started out with sweet puppy kisses as some of our girls got to spend time at the animal shelter again. They cleaned cages and walked dogs, but cuddling brand new puppies was definitely the highlight. It was a fun way to support and encourage the staff at the shelter.

Chicken Casserole Love

by Ronda Baldwin | November 9, 2018 9:49 PM

After spending an hour cleaning and organizing the freezer (brrr!), we warmed up by serving amazing chicken casserole to the guests at the community kitchen today. It was so good, and the volunteers were kind enough to give us the recipe! We also had the opportunity to hear several stories of the people who are served by the community kitchen on a daily basis.

How Many Boys Does It Take to Paint a Bathroom?

by Ronda Baldwin | November 9, 2018 9:58 PM

Today our Lift, Spackle, Paint Crew finished the second coat on Pastor Sean's office. We also spackled and painted a bathroom in the office building. We were able to finish the whole job!

AOI Round 2

by Ronda Baldwin | November 9, 2018 10:06 PM

Today at Appalachian Outreach we were able to finish the electrical work, load a 24 foot truck with supplies to be delivered to the southern part of West Virginia, sort donations, prepare packages for new babies, and label and pack up hundreds of Bibles ready to go out with every donation delivered.

Blessing our Hosts!

by Andrew Smith | November 9, 2018 10:22 PM

We got the opportunity to give back to our lodging hosts once again with a project that hasn't been done in a very long time, cleaning blinds! Thick dust took up some of our afternoon as well as getting some other tough tasks done that just haven't been done in a while.

Blessing our Hosts!

We Love Ms. Rose!

by Ronda Baldwin | November 9, 2018 11:55 PM

Our time at Appalachian Outreach ended with a special prayer over Ms. Rose, the director of this ministry we've grown to love. It was a holy moment to be able to lift her to the Lord and recognize His work and the need for Him in this ministry. We'll never forget her or the privilege it was to be a part of this work.

Ice Cream at Nana's!

by Ronda Baldwin | November 9, 2018 11:59 PM

Our last adventure of the night was to take over Nana's Pizza for ice cream. It is all homemade and very delicious! Frank and his staff took great care of us and made us feel welcome and loved. The other customers joined in the festivities, too  :)

Special Saturday Fun

by Ronda Baldwin | November 10, 2018 6:47 PM

Today was the best day! We all started together and went to the Laughlin Chapel in Wheeling, WV. We prepared and served a pancake breakfast for the kids, hosted a talent show where acts from both our group and their's performed, played group games, and fed them a hot dog lunch before the bus took them home. We loved spending time with the kids and getting to interact with them and ther staff as friends. Again we are reminded that ministry is full of fun!

Penitentiary Tour!

by Andrew Smith | November 10, 2018 10:48 PM

After a wonderful morning we took an hour to go on a tour of the old State Penitentiary in Moundsville, it closed down a few decades ago but draws a big crowd from people out of state. A little learning experience to see this side of the bars and how prisoners were treated and what led to the 1986 prison riot that eventually led to the closing and moving of the penitentiary.
