Ely Young Life worships with Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley

by Michael Puente | June 17, 2018 9:26 PM

We joined Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley with Pastor Ruben for worship and a devotional in the morning. We got to be part of a special father’s day service where they were given thanks for all they do. Two Team members were able to give their testimonies to the congregation which brought a tremendous impact to everyone. We are very excited to be partnering with this church this week!

Prayer Walk in Carlos Wesley

by Michael Puente | June 17, 2018 9:56 PM

After eating lunch, the team headed out to pray for the specific needs of the community lead by Pastor Ruben. We prayed for compassion and love for the Puerto Rico community and for the Holy Spirit to lead us to what we need to do. A part of the team will be working in Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley to do church projects and service and the other half will be working in Toa Alta to work on Home repairs for those devastated by the hurricane. Praying for God to give us the strength and love to serve others.

Praying for Pastor Ruben

by Michael Puente | June 18, 2018 10:15 PM

As we ended our prayer walk around the community, the Holy Spirit lead us to pray for Pastor Ruben who is the pastor of Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley. We prayed for both him and his family as we know that pastoring a church is not easy and it can be at times a difficult challenge to bear. We are praying that as we partner with this church this week, we can be a great blessing to everyone in the church and in the community.

Setting a Foundation

by Michael Puente | June 18, 2018 10:23 PM

Today we had the privilege to go to a city called Toa Alta in a small town called Barrio Galateo. This is a small town that was greatly affected by the hurricane. 90 percent of families here completely lost their homes. We had the privilege to work on the foundation of a small house that will be built for a resident who lost their home in this area. Before cement is applied to the foundation, it first has to be filled with soil/dirt which we were able to fill.

Taking away obstacles for the foundation

by Michael Puente | June 18, 2018 10:28 PM

Before the soil/dirt can be applied in the foundation, the weeds had to be cut and ripped off so it would not be an obstacle for the foundation to be completed and the soil would be easily applied. Some of us were responsible for taking off any weeds, plants or other items that would impede the foundation to continue being completed.

Carlos Wesley Church Cleaning

by Michael Puente | June 18, 2018 10:37 PM

As one part of the group was in Toa Alta working on home repairs, the other part came to Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley to work on church service/projects. We were able to clean many areas around the church including the backyard, roof, in front and inside. We are beyond blessed to be partnering with this church, it’s going to be amazing for the next couple of days!

Connecting with the Barrio Galateo Community

by Michael Puente | June 19, 2018 9:48 PM

As we were working on finishing the foundation, we had the opportunity to meet, connect and pray for Maria who will be living in the house once it is built. We were able to speak with some of the community members who were negatively affected by the hurricane and listen to their stories, we were greatly impacted by their testimonies.

Finished the Foundation!

by Michael Puente | June 19, 2018 9:54 PM

Today was a great day! We finished putting the soil for the foundation and the house is ready to be built for Maria. We give our big thanks to community leader Pin for guiding us and helping us making this happen. We can’t wait to see what God will continue to do with this beautiful community of Galateo in Toa Alta, Puerto Rico.

VBS at Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley

by Michael Puente | June 19, 2018 10:00 PM

As one part of the group was finishing the foundation of a house in Toa Alta, the other part of the group was doing VBS with the kids at Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley. We were able to teach the kids a song, have a skit, do face-painting, have snacks, and play outside. It was a blessing to be able to minister and be with the new generation that will rise for this community.

Community Clean-Up

by Michael Puente | June 20, 2018 10:14 PM

Today we partnered with some local community leaders in Galateo, Toa Alta to have a community clean-up where we took time to pick up scraps and trash that we’re scattered due to the hurricane. Afterwards, then we were able to talk to some of the local residents to hear their stories of how they were affected by the hurricane.

Praying for a Community Leader

by Michael Puente | June 20, 2018 10:21 PM

After we finished working with the community leader who helps with local waste and trash clean-up, we had a time to pray for him and his family whose house got destroyed during the hurricane. Despite everything that happened, he is still going around the town helping the people recover from the disaster. This impacted us and decided to pray for him for God to keep on giving him strength and to all of the Barrio Galateo.

As we come to the end of the week, we did one more day of VBS with the kids at Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley and then began repainting the walls of the church since the old paint was peeling off. It was a blessing partnering with this church this week that we were here. They welcomed us with open arms and we leaned from them in several ways.

Partnering with Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley

by Michael Puente | June 20, 2018 10:34 PM

Today was our last day of ministry with Iglesia Metodista Carlos Wesley. It was a great privelege and honor to partner with them during this time. We were able to do some VBS, church clean-up and service. We just want to give a huge THANKS to this church for helping us experience God through them and the culture. We all know that we learned from this experience.

Rec Day

by Michael Puente | June 21, 2018 10:06 PM

After a long week of ministry and working, we had the opportunity to be tourists for the day! We visited the fort and the castle of Old San Juan as well as the city itself. We wanted to give everyone the opportunity to take a day of rest after the week and being able to explore the rich history and culture of Puerto Rico. Today is our official last day here and we couldn’t be more grateful for what the Lord has done these past of couple of days with each and one of us. We hope to learn from this experience and being able to serve the ones who are in our local community. It will be an unforgettable trip!

We say Goodbye!

by Michael Puente | June 22, 2018 9:30 PM

After a week of ministry, we say a huge goodbye to ELY Young Life! Their heart is full of love and unity and a desire to serve God’s people. We were able to know them better than we did when they first arrived. We know that when they go back, they will carry a testimony and the heart to serve the local community at ELY, Minnesota.

We say Goodbye!
