We got to Chicago about 6:30pm. After getting settled into our host church, First Presbyterian, we loaded up our ventra passes and headed to a two story Target 5 train stops away. Dinner and our opening meeting was on the agenda for tonight. Now for a good night's sleep before we hit the ground running tomorrow.

This morning we got to hang out with the people at Care for Real food bank. We sorted bread and handed out both monthly and daily food to their clients. It was so fun to meet the workers and see the excellent serving system they have set up. We also loved connecting with the clients and hearing some of their stories.

This afternoon we got to prepare food with our host church to take to Sarah's Circle, a shelter for battered women. There we got to serve dinner to 50 women, including individual pineapple upside down cakes that made them really happy. It was a blessing to love on them and see their beautiful smiles.

Today was full of ministry opportunities at Cornerstone Community Outreach. We served lunch to the residents, cleaned up the cafeteria, and ended our time sorting donations for the thrift store. We had many conversations and made some great new friends!

Tonight we were so blessed to spend time at the men's shelter near our host church. Vini, the shelter director, spent about an hour teaching us about homelessness and answering all of our questions. Then we got to just hang out with the men, hearing their stories and connecting over things we have in common. It was very challenging and interesting.

The food pantry was overrun with volunteers today so we finished sorting the donations that came in yesterday. Then we climbed a gazillion flights of stairs to help sort and hang clothes, clean, and play with kiddos in the free store. We finished our morning by serving lunch at the homeless shelter again. It was so fun to see people we meet yesterday and grow those relationships!

This afternoon we got to spend a couple of hours singing songs, having communion, reading promises from God's Word and praying with some friends from our host church and the residents at Bryn Mahr Lighthouse. It is a home for the mentally challenged. We were so filled with joy as they truly lead us in worship.
