The Weary World Rejoices

The Weary World Rejoices

Jesus didn’t come with flashing lights and an ugly sweater, He came quietly, humbly. He was born in a stable amidst donkeys and sheep with only His parents to welcome Him into the world.

Praying Pelican Staff | Nov 11, 2015

It’s November 10th and I’m already exhausted. Yes, folks, it’s holiday season again. That means it’s time to start googling foolproof ways to cook a turkey in under an hour when you forget to turn the oven on while simultaneously online shopping and chugging eggnog. Don’t forget to make cookies for the four office parties you’re required to go to, find three secret santa gifts, decorate the house, and be thankful. Oh, you have things going on every weekend until January 7th? Say goodbye to going to sleep at a decent hour - that time just turned into gift shopping online by the light of your computer screen! Don’t forget that the sweet choir director at church cornered you after the service and you begrudgingly agreed to participate. Practices are every Tuesday night. Somehow, when God sent His son I don’t think this is what He had in mind. He didn’t envision frantically racing between stores to put boxes under trees topped by stars and angels. Jesus didn’t come with flashing lights and an ugly sweater, He came quietly, humbly. He was born in a stable amidst donkeys and sheep with only His parents to welcome Him into the world. This year I’m committing to remember that this season isn’t about all of that. I want to rejoice and reflect - to remember what the focus should be. To take this time to spend time with those I love and praise the Lord for sending His son, and really think about what that means. This should be a time of rest and rejuvenation. Like it says in one of my favorite Christmas songs, “the weary world rejoices.”
