4 Things We Know For Sure

4 Things We Know For Sure

This is a time for followers of Christ to step out in faith like never before.

Annie Bost | Jan 19, 2021

The New Normal...we’ve used that phrase and others like “unprecedented” or “never before” as qualifiers for 2020, a year that was unrecognizable from our typical life. A sense of “someday this will all go back to "normal” became entrenched in many of our minds as we tried to make sense, we tried to deal, we tried to normalize what was happening. During times like that, it's tempting to allow what we’re not sure about to crowd out what we can be sure of. More than anything, we can let the fear of the unknown overwhelm us, keeping us from the life God has called us to live. Our prayer at PPM is that we don’t allow the “new normal” to diminish our resolve but rather, through the renewing of our minds and the conviction of our heart, we see this as a time for followers of Christ to step out in faith like never before. As we turn the page into 2021, we believe it is vitally important to remind ourselves of what we know to be true.

God is on the throne.

Nothing can shake this truth. His rule and reign are not shaken by what happens here on earth. He is a good God whose position on the throne is unchangeable.

For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and IN HIM ALL THINGS HOLD TOGETHER. - Colossians 1:16–17

We are His.

We are God’s children, His beloved, and co-heirs with Christ. As we walk through difficult seasons, we can rest in the knowledge that He is holding us, that we are loved, and that our identities in Him are secure.

Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. - Matthew 10:29–31

The needs around us are great.

This past year has placed an enormous strain on people’s emotions, relationships, and financial situations. Now, more than ever before, the body of Christ needs to be actively engaged in loving people well and bringing hope and healing to those around us.

If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. - Isaiah 58:10

Our calling is the same.

Our calling as Christ-followers is first and foremost to love God with all our hearts, souls, mind, and strength and secondly to love our neighbors as ourselves. That calling has not, and will not, change. We can be firm and confident that this year will not be defined by complacency or fear, but rather by a bold faith that is rooted in who God is and how He cares for us.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing. - John 15:5

As we enter this new year, may the knowledge of who it is that we serve to take deep root in our beings. May we ready ourselves to be actively engaged in showing the love and light of Christ to those around us. And may we be eager in our anticipation of what God has in store for His people.
